The RNs are basically bandaid providers as well unless they are very experienced.

That depends. Are they dispensing daily medications? Troubleshooting insulin pumps? Managing asthma exacerbations? Administering or supervising growth hormone injections? Doing wound care on sutures? Doing throat culture/nasal swab/blood work if needed? Checking for lice? Managing some behavioral challenges? Monitoring weights in children with eating disorders?
I did all of these as a camp nurse. I made 3000 that summer and had accomodations.

7 years ago. I was single though, so I didn't get a bungalow, just a room. And no kids in camp.

Anyone know if male nurses make more in camp? 3k is much less then a hospital nurse would make in that time.

Can I correct this?
The RNs are basically bandaid providers until an emergency happens.
Medical providers in camp get paid to be on call, even if day to day is primarily band aid provisions.

It's not supposed to be a hospital nurse job. Hospitals don't usually provide sleeping accommodations, 3 meals a day and free day camp lol

Speaking as a mother who’s kid just had an asthma escalation in camp. The RN needed to be convinced to call Hatzallah, didn’t have nebulizers nor did she know anything about the local pharmacies if we needed steroids… didn’t check oxygen. bh alls well that ends well but this is the second camp experience where I’m shocked at how inexperienced the nurse is.
That being said I’m sure it varies tremendously.

It definitely varies. 2 years ago and 3 years ago my asthmatic kid was treated by tashbar's medical director. 3 years ago, I was shocked and very impressed that hatzala wasn't needed since ds had several severe asthma attacks throughout the previous year. 2 years ago, a doctor was called in for ds. It was covid year, and the camp wasn't taking any chances.

Shouldn't you be signing a contract listing out all of your responsibilities (broadly) and your compensation?

$3,000 to be on call 24/7 for two months? Even with accommodations and day camp, that’s so little! Around $2/hr!

I got paid $500 a week. Room board and food and camp/day camp for 3 kids. Basically on call for emergencies all day but for bandaids and Tylenol and daily medication there were morning and evening infirmary hours. And sometimes girls or counselors would come find me by meal time. I can count on my fingers how few times there were emergencies bh or was woken up

I didn’t get paid. Meals and rooms plus 3 kids in camp so was an even exchange. I also had morning and evening hours for meds or bandaids and bh few emergencies.

I know someone who does it and I really don't think she does it for the money. She works crazy hard all year long and I think to her its really a chill. Obviously stuff comes up in camp but nothing like delivering babies all day long lol.
