toilet training and bye-bye

my daughter is in the middle more or less finished . the think is do I put her on a diaper if I'm going out to the park or shopping? or can I trust her, it's been 3 days already.

I wouldn't put a diaper on her now, she'll just get confused and think it's ok to make in the diaper again.

On the other hand you have to remember they have small bladders and will probabbly have to go once or twice while you're out. I used to put them on the toilet right before an outing, in case ythey had to go , and once outside I'd ask them frequently if they had to go.

Ditto and even if they say they don't need to go they have to go on the toilet and try and Hashem will help. Guess what they always went LOL

thanks. we went to the park, and after I found a ABTHROOM BUT SHE DIDN'T GO. either she held it in or really didn't have to.

I think that when u decide to toilet train your child u shoud know that those 2 weeks or whatever it takes to train him u should not go out. or if its important u should put him on a pull-ups which sound more like a panty than a pamper not to confuse the child.

when I was training dd I would put a pamper on when I went out and at night and I really was unable to train her fully. after a while I decieded- thats it. I stayed home for a whole week, let her run around half naked and I got it done.. it takes commitment and putting a pamper on just confuses the kid - IMO

Unless I went long distances, I brought a diaper otherwise, I just brought a change of clothing.

When my son was just trained, I brought along a bucket lined with plastic bags, onto which one of those soft, round seats (same as we use at home) fit perfectly. I was more worried about #2. I kept it in the car, but only used it a couple of times.

You can also keep a potty in the car for emergencies.

Whoa whoa whooooa. 2 weeks?? I can't keep myself and the kids home for one day!

I have been gradually training my 2 year old since he was 1 1/2, and he had some dry stretches, some regression, trial and error. No pressure from me.
But yesterday I decided that's it, he's going into underwear for good.

I took the kids to the park, and he went in underwear. I just kept reminding him that he has big boy helicopter underwear, and he doesn't want to make his helicopters wet!

Well, he had an accident in the park, and was so distressed about his beloved helicopters. LOL

Today we spent most of the day outside, and he was in underwear all day. No accidents! Once he went in the park, on a tree. Smile

Let's see what will be tomorrow!

I have that problem too. I've been seriously training my son since last Friday, and I had FOUR DAYS IN A ROW - thursday, friday, shabbos, sunday - that I HAD to leave the house for several hours each time - a doctors appt on thurs, a city appt on fri, a shalosh seudos on Shabbos, and an important errand today. he wore a pull up every time we left and he utilized it to make #2 in it! I was pretty frustrated, but then again my life can't be put on hold now. Well, this entire week I dotn have anything pressing to take care of so I think Mon & Tues we'll stay home and work really hard at it. Maybe by Wed. we can go out in training underpants and keep the shopping to under an hour.

make sure sm goes before you leave. otherwise you'll be running for the first bathroom. my daughter is 5 & knows better & she still doesn't tell me shehas to go until we get to the park or something. I have become very strict in enforcing the we need to go before we leave rule.

of course I put him on the potty before we go, but he often doesnt need to go then. The problem is that he likes to drink a bottle on the street and then about 15 minutes later he wets.... I cant say 'no' when he asks for a bottle because then he starts screaming and writhing and trantruming and I just cant go on like that.

that's also what's consoling me about cheder, that he wotn be drinking so much there - just a half a cup of milk at breakfats and a half a cup of milk at lunch and once in a while a bit of apple juice in the classroom... not the five ounce bottles he guzzles down several times a day out of sheer boredom...

Off topic, but that's why I make sure to pack a bottle of water for my son. It's crazy! Dehydration, anyone?

If I send along a water bottle, he'll drink it on the bus in the morning or spill it on himself.

However, he is known to be assertive and to say "Shimi darf a bottie eppeejoos" so he might say it to his Rebbe too. I'm just worried that summer is coming now and they spend time outdoors on tricycles and such, and then they spend half an hour sitting on a hot bus... I guess I'll have his diluted juice bottle waiting for him at the bus when I take him off so he can drink immeidately.

Truthfully I took him to cheder today, he saw all the kids and became tickled pink, he jumped out of his stroller and was itching to join them, so I know he will LOVE cheder. But my mommy's heart is making me cry thinking of how he is going to become from a loved individual to part of a large group, an anonymous number in a classroom of thirty or so. Especially now that the year is ending, I hoep the REbbes will still have patience to the 'new boy in the class.' I'm grateful I'll have kept him home til 2 yrs & 10 months - every month at home with Mommy is a plus.

I guess he'll have ot learn to live without his juice bottle at cheder, just like many kids learn to live without their pacifiers or loveys when they go... they are so busy in cheder there is no time to miss their security blankets... why do you think he sits adn drinks juice bottles at home, out of sheer boredome.... by 11 or 12 he's exhausted all of his toys and his mommy's patience and he lies down on Totty's bed with a bottle to unwind, I guess he'll still do it after cheder...

I dont know why, I'm becoming very hopeful and determined to send him by R"C Sivan so I'm talking more and more about it.
