I am having problems with toilet training ds. My older 3 kids were all trained by 3 more or less. So I'm wondering if other people had problems like I am, with any of their kids and if/how they were resolved.

(obviously I am not talking about special needs kids)

I had a problem b/c ds wouldn't go #2 on the potty. basically I stopped training him and we were at home in the summer and he didn't wear anything on his bottom. he was in control of the sitch and he got over his fear by himself b'h. then he was ready to go school in the fall.

my oldest had the prob your kid is having now. afraid to go #2 on the potty. he held it in till he got his pamper at night.

it took months of bribing and encouraging, etc. till he finally got over it. he was 3 and 4 months I think. he still has the huge red fire engine he got as a prize! (he's seven and the truck is made of the cheapest junk imaginable, but somehow it has survived Smile )

My dd JUST got trained over first days yom tov and she's 3.5.

She was VERY against the whole thing, she refused to wear underwear, refused to even try...then I made up my mind that over the 3 day YT, I'm gonna do it. I knew that at this stage she was just afraid to make the change , but was def ready. I was telling her the whole week before , every day that when shabbos/pesach comes, she's going to be a big girl and wear panties and make in the toilet.

Shabbos morning came, I pulled out the panties, she unceremoniously threw them accross the room. I hid the diapers, as she went looking for them. We told her that if she puts on her panties, Tatty will let her play with her brand new Dora house, and she 'll get to go to the park with her friend. She finally let me put it on her. She peed in them the first two times she had to go, and after the 2nd time, I was very firm with her , and told her she cannot go to the park. She threw a fit, promised she'd tell me when she has to go, and she did!

Since then, She's been BA"H , accident free. She was also nervous about #2, and asked for a diaper, but I did not give in, I knew it would be a vicious cycle to get out of. Finally on day 2, she let it go, and is fearless ever since!

PS. I think it was CM, who mentioned once that the later a child gets trained, the less accidents they have . I found this to be totally true. It literally took a half day to train dd, COMPLETELY!

My first two were trained before three. My baby (who is almost 3.5) is not so easy. She does #2 only on the toilet, but she cannot be bothered to stop what she is doing to do #1 on the toilet. She knows how. When my mother was visiting and giving her heaps of attention, she did not make in her pull-up at all. As soon as the attention started to dry up, she was back to her old ways. I have tried putting her in underwear, but she doesn't mind sitting and playing in her own puddle. She's funny too. If her pull-up is starting to get full she takes it off, throws it out, wipes herself clean and puts on a new one.
