False. We have traditional set Yom Tov meals. Of course when we buy, we try to look which shop has the cheapest prices for what we need.
I just feel it's very wrong when shops make sales for self interest and fool people, like, selling chickens for half the usual price but the expiry date on the chickens is within a day or two or has long passed.

TPBM buys her husband a gift for Yom Tov.

Oh, that is awful, if something is short dated, we return/refuse the delivery. Yeah.. if the date us coming up, we'll slash the price, but we also have a lot of vendors who credit us/take back product we don't sell.

Although here's a secret for you...most shelf stable things don't really expire. ... You think that pasta knows tomorrow is September 1st and therefore 'oops... Time to go bad.. I'm only allowed to stay good through August' fresh food.. def check for smells etc... But shelf stable... I can think of at least one product we last received in line 2018 and won't expire to 2022
