Nope, you give them a big Mussar Speech afterwards and they do know that they have to apologize, and clean up too.

My kids choose shabbos for their best work. Smile
The way our apt. is arranged is that you can walk around in a circle around a middle wall that goes across most of the apt. (Dining room, into bedroom, out the 2nd bedroom door, into the hallway, down the hall and back into the dining room.

One shabbos they got a hold of a toilet paper roll and were running around and around and around. Tongue Out

Another Shabbos they unearthed floss from somewhere and did the same thing! It was like a web, across the armchair, barricading all closet doors, tying coats on the hooks to the wall, and keeping all the bedroom doors stuck in the open position for all of shabbos, until we were able to cut it. Very Happy

Oh Gamzu, would you rather they anoint themselves with a tub of Vaseline? Or baby powder on the whole bathroom floor?

No. But I didn't know it was multiple choice. My kids like to choose "All of the above" option.

We had Balmex experiences. Vaseline, too, a long time ago. Like 2 years ago!
Baby powder all over the carpet that the vacuum didn't pick up. We had to beat the carpet and then vacuum again. Smile

Okay a tip for corn starch or baby powder: do NOT wash up. Vacuum it, or pick it up with a lint roller.

For Vaseline, put corn starch all over the hair… it will absorb the excess. Bathe every hour for one week.

For Balmex, Spray your kid with Basic H!

This is a good thread for me to watch... I tend to freak out when my kids do this stuff.

One morning I woke up and found that my 2 year old and my 4 year old were up and about while everyone slept. They had taken this great big spool of ribbon (which I use for tying shalach manos) and undid the whole thing.
Boy, did I get mad.
I'm still ticked off about it!

So, I have to learn to lighten up like you guys....

Oh ChossidMom, ribbon? That’s a joke! I cannot tell you how many dozens of eggs were cracked, and my daughter recently personalized every kitchen cabinet with paint marker (used for decorating Neggel Vassers!) so cheer up!

I think that I stunted my children's growth. I can't remember any terrible mess like the ones some mothers describe as daily occurances. So, either they never happened or early senility has set it. I can remember whole bottles of shampoo going down the drain, literally, but that is not a mess.....

Listen. My 2 little ones have "personalized" every wall and table in my house with magic markers. I don't even see that stuff anymore!

BTW, I keep my eggs ON TOP of the fridge now. I got sick of them cracking eggs... They just assume all eggs are hardboiled!

Greentiger - that picture really takes the cake! I got that in my inbox once. Great one (as long as it's in someone ELSE's house.

Suo - What's the big deal? Cute kid is eating from 2 bags of cereal. So where's the mess? That would be a normal thing to see in my house! (AFter all, this is a "can you top this" thread). Tongue Out

Greentiger, I love that picture! Thanks for posting!

Tamiri, I think it is all a matter of perspective. I grew up eharing all the funny/messy things we did as children (I had the most stories, of course). I even some how wound up telling them at my ILs once and of course MIL was shocked. I said that I was sure that DH did something liket hat as a child but she said no. I think what she was really saying is that he did but she was horrorfied and probably punished him and surely cleaned it up right away and erased it from her mind as too stressful. My mom thought it was funny.

Punish? A tiiny child who just wants to have fun? Never!!!! Maybe my kids got my neatnik habits. Like my 3 yo likes to make a mess washing dishes in the sink... no big deal, he just empties the hot water boiler and the bottle of liquid dish detergent, but it's not a mess.
When finger painting, I put him either outside or in the bathtub.
I am careful with the uncooked eggs and keep them in the back of the fridge, for Chossid Mom's reasons (he likes running away with eggs).
I think maybe we once had oil on the floor.
Coloring on the wall: big deal, we painted over it all this past Sunday.
Cereal is on the top of the fridge. Flour and beans all in the freezer in Tupperware so it's not easy to get to.
Did I ruin my children's lives? Their freedom of speech? Their artistic inclinations? What should I worry about?

Don't worry Tamiri, I Don't think you ruined your children. Mine doesn't amek those kinds of messes either. Take out all the pots, tapes, unwind tape etc yes, but spill gunky food stuff on the floor, no.
