My daughter turned two at the end of december and has been begging to be allowed to make on the toilet ever since. I think I am ready now, notice I SAY THINK!! But how do I start. What do I do? What's the best way to toilet train when I don't have days to do it? Any suggestions, tips, advice? I'll take whatever I could get. (Ps I toilet trained my ds 2 1/2 yrs ago and have no recollection of how we went about it. All I know was that I was a week before my due date withthis little munchkie and it had to happen. How is a very good question, because I don't recall being at all involved!!!)

I am slowly working on this with my first (dd). She comes into the bathroom with me (I know some people are not ok with this, but she gets into too much trouble when I leave her alone) and I tell her what ema is doing. I remember reading that you need to know that your child is ready, and it sounds like your dd is showing interest. When my dd asks to sit on the toilet or use the toilet paper I let her. Even though she has yet to make any 'progress', I figure I would prefer for her to find a level of comfort with the idea rather than scare her away from it.
I have heard positive reincofrcements work. Big girl underware, a toy, candy etc.
Good luck.

to stay calm n not deal with accidents I let my 2nd DD wear pullups for a wk, then slowly introduced the underwear, I wud put her on the toilet e/ 1/2 hr and stay extremely calm if she had an accident (not easy). and slowly but surely she got the idea.
GOOD LUCK

I don't think that pull ups are very good. Because it still feels like diapers. So she will not know the difference.
Dress her easy for example socks instead of tights. go with her and keep on asking every 20-30min if she needs to go. I also give her more to drink on those days for her to be able to make. everytime she made give her something nice to eat.( for the first 1-2 days)
I also count with them to 10 when they finished but are still on the toilet. Because she used to think she was finished and then few min later she had to finish making, usualy on the floor. So I count and let them try again.

buy a potty
go out shopping with her and buy panties that she chooses
bring her at set times to the potty ... when she wakes up ... after eating ... before nap ... before leaving the house/upon returning from outside ... before bedtime ... this way she will get into the habit by herself ...
wait till she has this down pat ... and approach for nightime as well - less drinks toward end of day ... potty before bed ... and bring her before you go to bed ... and as soon as she awakens ...
treat with a sticker chart or a dance ... (no nosh)
good luck!!!

put underwear on her, ask her if she needs the potty every half hour. if she is ready, she will get it after a day. if she doesnt, and doesnt want to sit on the toilet ull see she isnt ready...

To amother above, I actually found this very helpful. It's stressful because you need to have your eyes on them constantly but as soon as they start to make you can rush them to the toilet to finish off. That was how I got my daughter to make for the first time in the toilet and it was the breakthrough I needed.
Now I somehow need to get her to do that for #2. The first 2 days she was wearing nothing and the 2nd day there was no accidents but she only made a drop of #2 in the toilet - prob because there was no other choice. Today I put panties on and she made in there big time. I'm debating now whether to put the panties on tomorrow again or go with nothing again.

Re: no underwear-
I actually prefer to put underwear, but not a skirt/trousers. This is so that it should be immediately obvious to me if the child has wet him/herself.
I also agree that pull-ups are a waste of time (and money!) as they are too much like wearing a diaper.

I second wearing underwear without skirt or pants
thas what I did with ds,
it also reminded him that he wasn't wearing a diaper...
I know some pple are against nosh - I used chocolate chips - like 5 or 6 each time, and it worked!!
ds was trained completely during day and naptime in 3 weeks.
