Out of curiosity, how often do you change your dishwashing sponge?

I change the dishwashing sponge once a week - as soon as I've finished house cleaning for Shabbos - I throw away the diswashing sponge, and all kitchen and bathroom cleaning sponges and dust-cloths.

Tell me which brand sponges you all buy, I'll ask my dh to invest in their stock!

what kind of sponges do you use that such is necessary?
Mine are clean/don't smell and do a good job, and are......................... old.

(after reading this thread, I'm too embarrassed

to write how many months old, my dishwashing sponges are!)

as far as cleaning around the house, I have special cloths for that, which are thrown into the washing machine after each use. but sponges for washing dishes......???????!!!!!!!!!

although I wouldn't say I change them every 2 weeks, I once heard that sponges are places for bacteria, even though they look clean. Don't be embarassed, queen, you're not alone! Anyhow, I think you can wash the sponges in a load of laundry, too, if they're still in good condition, no?
Also, you guys who change them every week or two, I assume you get cheap sponges?

sponges ARE microwavable to sanitize....

However I have those metalic ones (they only come in gold or silver) which absolutely CAN'T go in microwaves!!!!! (however I have thrown my fleishig one into the dishwasher at times.)

I'd try first for 30 seconds, see how hot, and if necessary do for longer

How smelly are your houses? YOu people go threw a lot of sponges!!

Queen, I'm with you! I microwave clothes and sponges. J-clothes and other sponges I put in a glass bowl with hot very soap water. I nuke it for 5 minutes. That way the entire microwave gets all steamy and everything is sanitized. Then I rinse it under cold water. If it is still smelly then I throw it out. But that usually works.

I buy really cheap sponges - 10pcs for approx. 45 cents no problem for me to change them every week Wink
