Reminds me of another elementary one.
Somebody has 5 siblings. Their names are Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday. There are only 6 siblings in the family. What is the sixth sibling’s name?

Your grandma’s wall clock chimes the appropriate number of times at every whole hour, and also once every 15 minutes. If you hear the wall clock chime once, how much more time maximum do you need to figure out what the time is, without looking at it?

Don't know what you define as "the appropriate number of times"...

The rule here is: once for .15, twice for .30, three times for .45, four times plus the new hour (in a different pitch)at the full hour...

So if this is your definition too, the answer would be
Hidden:

45 minutes

Yea, it was. My grammar is pretty okay, you should've noticed the missing question mark....

So, no. Grandfather clocks chime at every hour according to what hours it is. Once for 1 o'clock, twice for 2'clock etc., and some, including this one, chime once at every quarter of the hour :15, :30 and :45.
So now, go do your calculations....

Correct. Please explain your answer, though.

I was wrong...

Since the friends who played were Aretha, Belinda and Cassandra, and Alice played 10 games, my answer was wrong...

Hidden:

All in all, they played 42 times, so they played 21 games, since there are 2 players per game..
If someone loses all the time, they will play every second game...
Since alice (or Aretha) played only 10 games, she did not play the first game and lost each and every one of her games... otherwise, she would have to play at least 11 games...
So she played in the second game and lost...
So it was Alice (or Aretha?) who lost the second game...

Nice way of integrating bad players... although it can be frustrating to lose all the time...

She claims alices was a typo. That was my first question. I got a total of 25 games. Correct me if I’m wrong

You got the right answer. How did you get 25 games, though? It should be 21.

Hidden:

I counted 17 & 15 as only 17 games but had 2 spare for Aretha so added only 8 to 17 instead of 10 for a total of 25.

So now, go do your calculations....

In the same pitch or in a different pitch?

Here they always use a different pitch for the number of hours...

In this case the answer stays the same...

If it is the same pitch,
Hidden:

it could be 60 minutes... because 1 o'clock would have one chime just like the quarter hours...

If I hear 4 single chimes, it could be
1:00, 1:15; 1:30, 1:45, and the next would be 2:00 (2 chimes) or
12:15, 12:30; 12:45, 13:00; and the next would be 13:15 (1 chime)

After 1 hour, I would be settled, if it chimes two times, it is 2 o'clock, if it goes on chiming once, it is 13:15

Lol. I think this riddle only works for Americans. It’s not 18:39 now by us. Does a grandfather clock have 24 numbers?
