most of my house is wood floors, I usually get on my hands and knees and clean and dry each part piece by piece. But since this is such strenuous labor I do not do it as often as I like I usually just resign to sweeping. Anyone have good ideas of how to wash wood floors?

I have the same problem...But I was recently at a friend's who also has wood floors and they use a "Swiffer" (a stick with a wet "towel" type thing) that seemed to work well...

I hate murphy's oil.... and even when I use it, I feel like I have to be on my hands and knees scrubbing it and drying it... I want specifically I think I can do daily that my house stays clean... my baby crawls around and I find that his knees get filthy even though I'm always sweeping

When we moved last year, our floors were freshly scraped & varnished. We were told to wash ithem with plain water. Oh! before I wash the floors, I vacuum them so that all the dirt gets picked up.

I love my wood floors because it is so much easier to sweep up a mini-mess then shlep out the vacuum. I use Murphy's oil on them.

I lived with wood floors forever, & found the best way to clean them is first either sweep or swiffer, then part warm water/part viniger. Don't use very much water because it's not very good for the wood. Also I found using a Sponga (smatteh & stick thing) is the best bc everything else would leave streaks.
Sometimes I would use Murphy's, also worked not bad.

My whole house is wood floors and I love it! I do use the Murphy's oil soap to clean. You could get the kind that comes in a squirt bottle (it's not the same formula as the bottle of soap) and use that to damp mop. That would spare you having to feel like you need to dry the floor.

Wood floors r not for heavy traffic areas. Too much washing wears down the shine.mostly I vaccum the floors very thouroghly and use a miracle mop which I wring most of the water out of.

I also have wood floors. I vacuum all my floor first, even the kitchen. I like vacuuming the kitchen bc it gets everything including what is between the grout.
I don't use a lot of water and I would never ever use vinegar on wood floors. It will eat away at the finish and won't look shiny. Murphy's oil is great but if you have to dry your floors you are using too much water. It should dry by itself quite quickly.

You never heard of vacuuming floors? That is why they come with a setting for floors and even extra attachments for wood floors. At least a decent vacuum cleaner does.
I vacuum furniture, pillows baseboard, everything. That way you get all the dust without it flying all around your house and having to use chemicals.
Then I will shine and condition the furniture and wash the floors.

Vacuuming is fast and grood.
Actually Queenie the vinigar doesn't eat away or ruin the wood/shine. My mother has been doinging it forever & only once had to revarnish the floors (maybe after 15 yrs!). Though it is true you should use very little liquid/water on the floors.

Maybe she should have used Murphy's oil and she wouldn't have had to revarnish at all. My mother has had the same wood floor for over 20 years and never ever had to revarnish. You can see the reflection in her floors!
I would really be surprised if someone had wood floors and washed them every week with vinegar and they still shined. How can you stand the smell? Makes my eyes water.

It's very dilute, not enough to make your eyes water!

Pardon me for asking but, how do you know how much vinegar makes my eyes water? I can't stand vinegar.
I still wouldn't recommend vinegar for polished wood floors. Not if you want to keep them shiny.

Fine, stay away from the vinegar . I meant it's a small amount and not a strong substance (we are talking about maybe an ounce in a few gallons of water). And while you may disagree about the effectiveness, do a websearch of 'vinegar' and 'polished wood floor' and there are plenty that claim it is good for shiny, clean wood floors.
