I was wondering how often people on here wash their pillow and blankets or quilts--and how do you wash them?

I use quilt covers and I wash those and not the quilts. How often? I should probably do it once, right before putting the quilts in, at the beginning of the cold season and then again, when I take the quilts out, in the spring. Though they could probably use a wash during the summer too when it's shvitzy.

Covers I wash once a week - dont know how you can only do it once a season when you sleep in it every night! How is it different to clothing??
The actual blankets and pillows (we have down ones) get done every few months.

Can down pillows be washed? I take all quilts to the laundromat 2-3 times a year. pillows usually don't survive much washing. they become lumpy.

The pillows that can be washed in the washing machine should be placed with shoes. I learned that from my MIL but I forgot the reason for it...

I wash my quilts once a month, and my pillows I just replace 2 times a year. I am afraid to put them in the machine.

wouldn't hurt you to try throwing them in the machine shortly before replacing them. this way you wont feel bad if they get ruined, worst scenario you'll get several more months out of them!
