How have you grown because of your children?
I could probably come up with lots of examples, but I was thought of the question right now because dd was going on *again* about how she wants my slippers (they were her favorites in the store, but they only came in adult sizes) and I told her the Torah says, "Lo sachmod" - that we shouldn't be jealous of what other people have...and a bell suddenly rang in my head - hey, that means me too - think of something I was jealous of others about.
Another thing that happened when she was around 2...I mumbled a bracha and was startled to hear a loud, "Amen!" My reaction: Glad SOMEONE noticed I was saying a bracha, cuz I sure didn't! Gotta work some more on kavana!!!

we always said brochos out loud and told the kids to do the same so that the words were not mumbled and we can say "amen" ... pretty much we still do
(hey you buddy - I posted something about "lo sachmod" today too )

"lo sachmod" is interpreted as "don't be so jealous that you're willing to steal it." just figured I'd mention...

Why cant she verbalize what she wants though? if my daughter tells me she wants something I tell her, ya? you really like them? its not like shes jealous of you, she just likes them and wants to know if she can have them too...!

Wow, take it easy - of course she can verbalize it - she tells me all the time that she likes mine better and she wants mine - and I tell her that if she still wants them when she's a grown-up she can have them. At that moment, I had been sitting and slipped them off for a second, so I let her slip them on, but then I wanted to get upand do something, so I asked for them back, and after a sigh and another complaint that she likes mine better, she gave them back! It wasn't really meant to be a serious mussar schmooze for her - hence the abridged explanation of "lo sachmod" - my point was just that because I said it to her, it rang a bell in my head causing me to examine my own middos. This thread wasn't mean to be about slipper thievery!
