Of course! We have chof-alef kislev, which is the Satmar Rebbe zya"'s hatzalah from Auschwitz, it's an international Yom Tov. and then we have Chof Vov Av, the Rebbe zya'"s yahrzeit, an international Yahrzeit. Of course we have our own 'dates' .

This thread was not started to be against chabad but to find out more about the chassiduses like bobov, vizhnitz , satmar, etc. Lubavitch is a wonderful chassidus that has many wondeful minhagim, but since I can a) ask my best friend for books b) go on the internet, I don't need to ask here. By the way, I happen to love reading Nechoma Greismans books for women.
Please accept my deepest apologies if I offended Lubavitch ppl on this site.

I'm not trying to say anything.
The thought popped into my mind recently and I wanted to ask. That's all.
Were there other Rebbeim who were persecuted like the Chabad Rebbeim for keeping Yiddishkeit alive?
Also, is there such a concept of receiving things from the Rebbe as a bracha like wine from the Rebbe's becher, honeycake on Erev Yom Kippur, Matzah on Erev Pesach, etc?

OK sorry. It just sounded like you were saying that maybe chabad is better bec. they have these things and others dont.

Oh yeah, thats what shirayim is all about. And there is usually a major 'grabbing' for these things!

I didn't think that shirayim was a set time when the Rebbe gave these things out. I thought it just kind of happened.
I don't mean to set you against each other, but may I ask your (Chasidim with a Rebbe) opinion of the Chasidim without a Rebbe, that these types of things don't exist for?

I assume its only for previous Rebbes.
It might be a bit hard to celebrate the yahrtzeit of the current Rebbe, as he is still alive.

I just went to a nutrition workshop and one of the women said that they serve chickpeas and potato kugel on erev shabbos b/c of her chassidic backround. What is the reason for this?

Pity you didn't ask her. The few times I went to Willie for Shabbos, to different places, on Friday afternoon they takeh served us potato kugel each time ....

serving warm shabbos food in the afternoon is referred to as 'TOAMEHO'. but I dont know the reason.
There are plenty of chasidim without Rebbes. Sadly this generation is kind of cynical and many people dont think todays' Rebbes are worth anything.
21 Kislev and 26 Av were for r' yoilish ztzL who passed away 28 years ago. the Berach Moshe passed away a year ago on 26 Nissan, but I dont think he ever publicly celebrated his hatzalah date from the war.

Not me.
I was JUST reading Nechama Greisman a"h's anthology and getting even more inspiration than I did the first time (probably because the first time I was single maybe and only wondering what being a Jewish wife and mother was about)
And btw I was so sure I heard MamaBear use the term chagas chassidim recently on the board. Or am I dreaming, MB?

Its says somewhere 'Toyamehu chaim zochi', (forgot where)
'Toyamehu' means 'tasting' We taste the shabbosdige food before shabbos to make sure it is tasty and delicious for shabbos.
Although I always wonder if someone forgot to put salt into the kugel, its too late to salt it then. Are they gonna make another one an hour before the zeman?

The term Toyameha Chaim Zaku actually reffers to people who live now in golus with the feel of moshiach in their lives. It is a concept of emunah and kabolas ol of incorporation "revealled g-dliness" into our lives even whilst in golus. If we make an effort to do this, we are benched with Chayim, with living to see the geulah sheleima.
As a spin off of this concept and because toyameha literally means to taste, many chassidim taste the shabbos food before shabbos actually arrives.

It sounds silly, but I spoke to the rov about this, actually. It applies only to food that you can fix, like you don't sit down and eat a hunk of challah on Friday afternoon, b/c there's nothing you can do to fix it at that time. Unlike popular belief, there is no mitzvah to eat half a kugel or even taste a cookie.
