I always picture chassidishe women as being industrious housewifes and having very super clean homes. Is that an accurate portrayal? Also, do most have help or do they do a lot of their own cleaning?
My son was often a guest in a Satmar home and was very impressed by it.

People are people. Some are clean, some are messy, some are downright gross, and others are super-neat. Satmar is no different.
I've been in many many Satmar homes and they were all different.

In Lubavitch you will often find women going on mivtzoim on Sundays or their free days, or starting off their day by davening in 770 and going to shiurim and that's the ikker, learning and davening.
Some women go to the Ohel often, others set up brissin and bake for simchas and needy kallas or families with newborns. Others fundraise for those in need.

we do tend to be neater and cleaner than non chasidishe families. there was a thread - I'm not sure it was here, maybe I think on hashkafah.com - a poll on 'do you make your bed every day' and I was horrified to no end to read that the vast majority of the posters DONT MAKE THEIR BEDS EVERY DAY! Cmon!!!!
and what about the thread about how often you bathe your babies or toddlers? I couldnt stop cringing... most women in my 'hood bathe their young children daily (including me).
Of course bh being blessed with little kids, during peak hours the homes are the same disaster/zoos as anyone else's, but during the rest of the day, I daresay most of the homes are clean and organized. I admit that many families do have a once-a-week cleaning lady for a couple of hours.
Depending on your talents, many women find satisfaction & enjoyment in baking and cooking. (I'm not one of those  , sadly.)

Another thing is that Crown Heights (rental) apts tend to be old, so it's hardly worth it to scrub them They just never look clean.

I live in an old apt. building... And I have a very clean home... I guess its my "chasidisha blood"...
interesting thing to think about... I tend to agree that chasidisha ppl are more 'balabustas" than others... maybe b/c they don't do prof. work?

I think not working makes a very big difference. I work at home and often in the morning once I get everyone out I walk to my office and I see all the thing sin my house I would rather be doing and I don't mean books I mean cleaning.
Of course it could be one of those the grass is greener situations and my house would be a mess even if I didn't work, but I don't think so since during my break after my baby was bron my house was really neat!
Sigh, those were the days!!

To me this thread sounds more like life in Satmar. I am lubavitch and my chssidus doesn't at all compare to the life described here. I am simply making observations and not being judgemental at all. In our life the women play a much less insulated role. We learn alot, and pass on alot of integral faith and concepts to our children. Until going to school, our children are taught alot of chassidus in our everyday lives (such as the chssidishe yomim tovim, the different rabe'im, reasons for many of our minhagim etc.) Many women work outside the home.
I think the difference is that we are encouraged to use the modern world in our avodas hashem rather than to shun it.
Our role as akeres habayis is undisputed, but there isn't the same amount of rigidness as to what to serve on shabbos, which clothing kids must dress in (as long as collar bones, elbows and knees are covered). Many little boys wear only navy or black pants with a white shirt on shabbos, some don't start that until a little older like around 7ish.
I think the comment about chassidish women being cleaner and neater is just outright ludicrous. That is like saying that a certian group of women is taller, or thinner. I think that you can find litvish and chassidish homes that sparkle and also that are grobby and gross. I do think however that the satmar women are much more "judged" (for lack of a better word) by how sparking their floors are. While we are also taught to be clean and neat, our ikkur is not so much on appearnace but on what is going on inside our heads and our hearts.
Our girls learn chumash and meforshim as well as sichos, ma'amorim etc. inside the sefer. We hold Eretz Yisroel to be very important and The Rebbe has many times called the chayalim the people who "guard our country with their lives".
I guess that my overall point is that asking about a chassidish life is almost like asking about jewish education. The spectrum is so broad that the question becomes relatively redundant. You can ask about life in satmar, life in ger, life in bresslov, life in lubavitch etc and each answer would be completely different one to the other.

Actually, I was going on what I have observed with Satmar, Bobov, Vizhnitz and the like. I don't need to ask on this forum about lubavitch b/c my best friend is and she can give me all the answers I need.

Could I just add a side point?
When people say chassidish, they generally are NOT referring to Chabad. They are referring to all OTHER chassiduses.
If they wanted to refer to chabad, the would say chabad or lubavitch...

When we say Chassidish in Lubavitch, we mean ourselves. Other types of Chasidim are Chaseedish, because there's a difference in the Yiddish accent.

I don't necessarily think that the chassidishe ladies are more neater and cleaner, but they consider being a wife,mother and homemaker to be the ultimate profession.Being neat and clean to them is part of it b/c they want to make their mikdash me'at nice. Not that litvish don't do this , but overall they are more into making sure they can support their husbands and keep up the house at the same time which doesn't always make it so possible to be so devoted to your role as a mother. Not that some ppl can't , but not everybody is a super woman who can make the money, take care of the house and be super mom. On some level, I think that is asking quite a lot from a woman. Some ppl feel that they have no choice but to do this or else they won't be considered frum.

GR, most chaseedishe homes who have cleaning ladies only have them once a week, on thursday or Friday. the rest of the week they clean themselves!
as for the amother who is comparing satmar and lubavitch, this thread is about non-Chabad Chasseedim.

Mama Bear, I don't have a cleaning lady at all. My point was anyone can have a cleaning lady and anyone's house can be clean, it doesn't matter who is doing the cleaning! A house doesn't need the balebuste herself doing the cleaning like the kids need their mothers to be taking care of them.
Or how about if I would say that houses where both husbands and wives are doing the cleaning, are much cleaner than ones in which only the wives clean.

Nobody is saying that ALL chaseedishe ladies are big balabustas and ALL their homes are sparkling clean and that ALL litvish are slobs. But if you take 1000 yeshivish/litvish houses and 1000 chaseedish houses and sort of 'mark' them on their cleanliness/orderliness, the chaseedishe homes would def. get a higher average mark.
Same with the thread about chabad dressing. There are def. 1000s of chabad ladies that dress very tzniusdik. But the percentage of chabad who dont dress so tznius is def. higher than the percentage in any other chassidus.

I lived in an old apartment building and my apartment always looked spotless and organized. (onviously not when my child was playing though ) and now I live in a diff apartment and its the same. it just depends on how u are and if u are clean or not.
