I thought lovebirds need mates ...

their feathers certainly add character

They are more likely to bond with you if they don't have a cage mate. Handfed birds are like little kittens. Sweet as butter. Flower

Wow they've grown so much. They're becoming prettier and prettier every day especially as their feathers are thickening and getting whiter and brighter.

I wish I could own some. I owned two lovely birds for about two years. I had a bird-sitter to watch over them for a few weeks while I was OOT for the summer.

The sitter claimed that they flew out of the window and never returned.... :-(

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Sad

If it makes you feel any better, I'll be on the east coast mid July, perhaps you should pop on by and adopt one of the little guys, but beware, you will instantly fall madly in love with them! Very Happy

Oh, almost forgot to mention this--- my beautiful black masked lovebirds have laid their first egg, so there will hopefully be more babies to come!

Here are the lovebirds out of their box. I tried getting a picture of the egg but the mama won't let. In case you're wondering, that's a piece of paper in her mouth that she plans on adding to the nesting material in the nestbox.

We saw a total of 8 eggs, but the most she's hatched in one season is 4. I actually tried to prevent this by not putting a nesting box, but DH caught them mating in broad daylight in front of their children so we gave her the nest box. And then had to move the children to another cage because her daughters kept trying to go in the box and she beat them up.

Such drama.

All but one of the babies have been adopted. Anyone want a baby conure Wink I'm still handfeeding everyone. The lovebirds will be weaned in about 2 weeks. Can you believe how big they've gotten?!
