I got a headache reading all the posts here. I shouldn't feel bad, really, because I just got a bunch of stuff as a gift that I even got to choose. But I have things I need (like shoes that aren't falling apart and are mechubad to wear) that I can't afford, and it's not because we live extravagantly. The last time I got new jewelry was after we had a break in and the insurance paid for it (over 2 years ago).

What is the point of this?

Wore it once or twice.

So thats the new thing I have for shavuos.

Oh wait- maybe the stockings that I bought a few weeks ago but haven't taken out of the package qualify. I'll open a new package for Shvuos!!!

I'm sorry you are upset by the thread. I don't think the point is to gloat but maybe don't read it if it's going to make you upset. It must be frustrating to read what everyone is getting when you can't get a decent pair of shoes at the moment. May Hashem help your situation and have a good Yom Tov!

I got myself two new Maternity Tops. I'm not wearing Mat. yet, but maybe in the next few weeks.
I was just so happy to find nice, long-sleeved, stylish shirts, which don't look like tents.... lol....

All my food is new... does that count? But I have some new socks that I haven't worn yet.

Yes, MM, I would also be happy to fit into some of my OLD clothes. (Barely worn clothes that I bought as a Kallah)

I don't htink this is to make anyone feel bad. I guess if you are planning to get something new, save it for Y't.

If I got s/thing new for Pesach, I gen. don't get for Shavous, but this year I put away a gemstone ring for myself so I'm looking forward to wearing that. A plus is that it's washable; I usually wear a pearl ring every day, and I have to get that steam cleaned for myself. I hate dirty jewelry!

All of my Shabbos'dike summer clothes are more then 10 years old, all of them! And some fo them are not so tsnius, either. I'm not so into the vintage look, either, but to find tsnius, washable, light Shabbos clothing is a real task.

Just last night I brought home three suits for myself from Syms's; I need them tailored but I might wear one on yomtov with a sparate shell until I can get to the tailor. I love Sym's, I can get outfits for $8 and $12 there!!!!!

I feel like I bought tons of new clothing - all my old clothing fits now! I've had so much fun wearing Shabbos clothing that hasn't fit for a couple of years.

I once heard a tape by R' Veiner about spousal responsibilities. I don't believe he said that it's a must to get your wife something new for Yom Tov. But he did say, (I don't remember the source), that buying your wife something new for y't , is a segular for ashirus - wealth! He suggested, that instead of getting your wife something for her birthday (If you can only afford one), save the present for yom tov.

This is not meant to make anyone feel bad, but on the contrary, where it's possible, you might one to try it as a segula! ( and no it does not have to be a $500 bracelet......

Me too. If I'm buying used, I definitely look ahead of time on ebay.
