Am I the only one that finds #foodporn offensive?

I know this is not a new hashtag, but I haven't seen anyone complain about it. I cringe whenever I see a kosher restaurant use the hashtag #foodporn, or even worse #kosherfoodporn (like, how is that even a thing??). It seems to me that equating luscious food with [filth] normalizes [filth] and indirectly portrays it as a tantalizing, harmless pleasure. I understand it's marketing, but I feel like we need to draw the line somewhere. It's bad enough that the world has managed to sexualize everything, why do we need to also? Call me a prude, but I think the word [filth] has no place is Jewish marketing. What do you think Ladies?

I totally agree.

Thankfully I have not come across this from Jewish sources - probably because I don't use social media - but if I did, I would voice my complaints.

There have been many marketing fiascos because of unfortunate choice of words (like the #hackahairdryer one), and this seems to be one of them.

As a pornographer, I object to people being distracted by other vices.

The term sounds repulsive. Thank goodness I never came across it.

This thread is not a joke.
I come across it quite often on instagram. I was very taken aback the first couple of times I saw it, now I'm used to it, but it's disgusting.

It refers to food that looks so delicious, I guess it arouses your tastebuds or whatever.

I also object to "slutty" (used to describe brownies???) A page called "I F-ing love science", (the name not the page) expressions like LMAO or you look HOT! when use by frum people.

I'm sure these people would never use words like that IRL, (except maybe in private) so why is it ok on the internet?

Were these frum sites? Because I wouldn't overestimate the delicacy of the world at large, IYKWIM.

Any idea why Google doesn't pick up kosher food [filth]?

I suppose, then, that you don't appreciate when people label chocolate and other delicious edibles as orgasmic... Tongue Out

In a way, calling it #foodporn makes sense, because, seriously, in real life, my food doesn't actually look like that.

Sometimes I just like to feast my eyes on a fantasy that looks better than reality... even though it took hours of primping and picking the most perfect looking of the bunch and the right lighting and just-so camera angles to achieve.

See, it's a perfect metaphor 'cuz I'd still rather eat the food that's on my plate, even if it's not pinterest worthy. Wink

---

Also, I think in general, our society has gotten kind of meta and self-deprecating about indulging in various vices.

If brownies can be "sinful" (Deadly Vice: Gluttony), I can imagine the wires getting crossed and having using lustful (also a reaction to physical stimuli) adjectives to describe it as well. And as clickbait? S-X SELLS.

So, I understand the thinking behind it, but yeah, I think it's crass and would never use the term myself.

I tried it as separate words and one big word and I still got no results. I wonder why. Thank you though.
