We are having an ice cream party to encourage kids to come hear the Aseres Hadibros. Any ideas for toppings?
So far we have:
Chocolate syrup
Ground nuts
Choc. sprinkles
Colored sprinkles
Cookie crumbs
Round ball sprinkles (I don't know what they're called)
Chocolate shavings

I wanted caramel, strawberry syrup, and lots of other stuff, but we can't get it here. Would people put fresh strawberries, bananas or other fruits on their sundaes?

I think fresh fruit is a great idea. Can't really think of any ideas for you know, but if I do, I will post it.

warm fudge or some cold fudge Confused it is very easy to make if you want the recipe let me know I will find it for you. Try honey, chocolate chips, nuts, raisins, small chocolate candies, mushed fruit, candied cherries.

Hot Fudge Sauce
4 ounces chocolate
1/2 cup butter or marg.
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/2 cups of sugar
1/2 cup milk (never tried it with soy milk though sorry)
1/2 cup heavy or whipping cream

Melt the chocolate and butter, stirring frequently, in the top of a double boiler over simmering water. Add the cocoa and whisk until dissolved.

Using a slotted spoon, gradually stir in the sugar. The mixture should be the consistency of wet sand. Cook, stirring occasionally, over simmering water for 20 min. Check the water level in the double boiler occasionally and replenish if necessary.

Gradually stir in the milk and cream and keep stirring until completely blended. Continue cooking, stirring and checking the water occasionally, for 1 hour. The fudge is ready when it is completely smooth and all the sugar is dissolved.

Makes about 1 quart

If you want you can add 1/4 teaspoon of peppermint extract.

Why don't you make your own caramel? It is pretty simple to make, though you do need to give it your attention. Here is one of the simplest recipes that I have found for caramel.

1/2 c light brown sugar - lightly packed
1/4 c heavy cream
3/4 tsp butter, melted
place in small saucepan over medium heat stir until sugar is dissolved, bring to a boil & boil for 1½ minutes stirring occassionally. Mixture will be golden and have the consistency of syrup. remove pan from heat, pour topping into a small bowl to stop cooking process.

This recipe is from the viennese table printed up in the May issue of Esra. If you want a recipe that I actually made, pm me.

Other ideas...
crushed candy (or any small candy), coconut, those small candy coated mints, m&m's (or the imitation of them), brownie crumbs, mini marshmallows, butterscotch chips (or any chip for that matter)

how do you make monpareils? How do you serve it on ice cream if they are in round balls?

maple sugar sprinkles
maraschino cherries (yes I know they're like all artificial, but they're fun)
home-made PARVE maple caramel walnut sauce (canning instructions for long-term storage, even:

1 1/2 C corn syrup
1 C maple syrup (grade b is fine)
1/2 C water
1/2 C sugar
2 C walnut pieces

Combine first 4 ingredients in a pot, bring to a boil (no need to stir too often). Simmer about 15 minutes til it begins to thicken. Stir in nuts and cook 5 additional minutes.

To can, ladle hot syrup into hot 1/2 pint jars, leaving 1/4 inch headroom, cap with 2 piece caps and boil 10 minutes in boiling water canner. This makes about 2 pints or 4 1/2 pints obviously.

It's delicious. Great for pound cake, fruit, and ice cream sundaes.
p.s. recipe canning instructions are from the USDA ball blue book, so should be safe!

everything here in argentina is made with dulce de leche...its so yum!!! ill make a deal with u guys. u send me ingredients I cant get here (balsamic vinegar, sushi rice, toasted sesame oil...etc etc the list goes on and on) and ill send u some real good dulce de leche! any takers?

dulce de leche is in spanish and its caramel. it literally means sweet of milk. its really yummy and used in lots of baked goods here in argentina. all milchig restaurants will have something made with dulce de leche on the dessert menu. and it comes cholov yisroel so thats the best part of course!

I love all the above ideas and my mouth is watering for the yummy ice cream ... anyway you could also make soda floats like with rootbeer or orange soda ... Enjoy the party!!!
