size 2???? No! Never was!! I used to be a 6-8 but now I am a 10/12 (and was even more at times).

One thing I want to know ... I just went to the bagel shop to buy bagels for my kids. Why are there so many skinny ladies in the bagel shop? What do the size 2 ladies order??

Assuming that thin women don't eat normally is just as offensive as assuming that heavy women don't eat normally.

so you're saying that they are actually eating bagels but just not gaining weight?

With all the size 2 bashing, I'm just gonna point out - when you are very short, petite and fine-boned, and you gain even a bit of weight, it just looks dumpy.
My friend always makes fun of me for my workout schedule and caring so much to lose weight. But she's 5"8. When she's a size 12, she can carry it. She looks beautiful, stately and dignified. Does she look better when she's a bit thinner? Yes. But she looks great at every size. When I'm a larger size, the whole garment doesn't fit right. Even when I buy petite sizes, they are assuming you are 5"4, so everything is a bit "off". So if you're lucky enough to be taller, fashion is definitely more forgiving.......

Maybe. I don't know and I don't care. Some women are size two because they diet/exercise, some women are size two because they were created that way by God Himself. They are not a different species than every other woman out there.

Skinny lady here. Honestly, I probably eat worse than you. Plenty of carbs, fat, sugar, lots of candy, I use half and half in my coffee not skim milk, I use butter in my dairy dishes... If I were at a bagel shop, I'd probably get a white flour bagel with full fat cream cheese. I've never weighed over 110lb.

...Is that what you wanted to hear?

Skinny women eat all sorts of things. We don't just eat nothing or eat very little or eat very healthy. Just like larger women don't all eat junk food, surely you would agree with that?! It's silly to assume that ALL women of a particular body type eat in a certain way.

I would say, this doesn't have to do as much with height, as with body shaped, the proportions, etc. Of course height is also a factor.
I'm 5"7, people don't notice, if I gain 8 pounds, because I'm quite proportional, I don't think I would be able to be a size two, that's like what? A 32 in Europe?? I don't even see that size in shops.
But yes, height is a factor and body type as well.
I also weigh more, than people would guess, my friend who is as tall as me and about the same size, weighs about 15 pounds less.

Yes Rachel. These people need to go to speciality shops, or shop at big kids/teen.

So why is america obsessed with size 2?
Europe has plenty skinny ladies, no one ever talks about a size 32...maybe the sizes are different? Bigger in the US?

I honestly thought that naturally skinny people just had a smaller appetite.

Shops carrying both sizings equate US 0 with French 32.

I have no idea how someone can fit in that, someone healthy, developped and not 4'' or something. Our skinnyminnies are 38, 36... which makes US 6 and 4.

Finding a 34 is hard already- but exists in teen shops. 32 is speciality for sure. Guess we have fewer "superobese" and fewer "superskelets"..

I have a daughter (and sisters in law, so this is clearly genetic) who can eat deep fried ice cream and not gain an ounce. My sister in law eats whatever she wants...........
Just a roll of the genetic lottery!

My husband is also that type..life is not fair.
Is it possible for a metabolism to change? I used to be inclined to gain weight, now after I lost alot of weight (37 kg in half a year, 2 years ago, after my last child was born), I don't seem to gain so quickly anymore.

While some people claim to have a naturally fast metabolism, most "naturally slim" people I know work hard at it. Like a colleague who mistakenly bought a full-fat yogurt, and then calculated what she needed to skip later in the day to make up for it.

I admire that dedication.

My entire family is like this! We all hear it, like "Just wait til you're [20/25/30/35/40/50+]...." Well, we are all still waiting! Tongue Out

If skinny folks just had smaller appetites, wouldn't the entire key to lose weight just be to eat less? But as those who have dieted can tell you, it's not so easy and a little more complex. Exercise and metabolism have a lot to do with it (diet too, but it's multifaceted!).

I remain sad that things like full-fat yogurt (and dried fruit, nuts, etc) are things we dieters "splurge" on.

I am a size 2. I work really hard to be that way. I work out 3 times a week and watch what I eat. Its tough and not for everyone but I feel alot of pressure to be that way. my friends always refer to me as the skinny mini and my dh always mentions how he appreciates that I work hard to stay attractive.

I'm still struggling to lose a few pounds after back to back pregnancies but yes I do feel the societal pressure to be thin

If you're a size 2 why do you need to lose more weight?
