If I knew how to quote I would . . .
to the person disparaging my spelling, I spelled it phonetically the way I say it. I don't say Yomim Tovim, I say Yontif, so that's how I wrote it.
You'll notice I did use Yom Tovim also, just to round out my spelling.
If there's a spelling convention for hebrew or yiddish words that I don't know about, please let me know. In the meantime, I'll keep spelling phonetically.

Annie. What you wrote is fine. I've seen that way before. Besides, Yom Tov are Hebrew words, so there's no real way of writing them in English, only more common ways. Coolmama, you could have said that a bit nicer. I would've been insulted.

Yontif is perfectly acceptable, it is just Yiddish, instead of Hebrew. Would you prefer Jontef? lol
Please see:

Also, search http://www.jewishgen.org/jri-pl/jriplweb.htm with
Search Parameter 1: ----- Given Name----- Starts with ------ Jont
better?

Isn't it great that we have our very own expert here on Hebrew/ Yiddish words used in English? Thanks.
Right Ruchel, your thesis is on this? (Did I remember right?)
We are doing well on imamother - a doctor, midwife, lactation consultant's DILs, computer experts, and all the others I've forgotten.

Yes, you remembered well
It will be completed next year, or the year after, with Hashem's help. I'm coming to NY this summer to do some interviews to have more material to analyze (I have many written things, I want some oral ones too). NY seems the best place to do that, as I need English speaking Jews, and all "levels" from secular to extra frum. NY has all that. I will mainly use my relatives but I will have problems to find totally secular, reform & also chassidish (or any ultra O. by the way, my teachers aren't so knowledgeable about the different categories), I probably don't have such cousins in NY. I used to have very distant Satmar cousins, but they moved.
