I was always told that the K on on Kellogs products was allowed.
Email the OU (if you hold by them) and see if it's reliable.

I was always told that a plain k is not a hashgacha, it has to be a chof k, circle k, tablet k.....etc. If I am wrong please let me know. Most kelloggs products are kosher as far as I know though.

I believe Kellogs is the one "K" which IS reliable.

Here is from Rabbi Eliezer Eidlitz's website:
http://www.kosherquest.org/ind.....sherk

Rabbi Eidlitz is a major maven on Kashrus, and he doesn't give his own hashgocha. He is very well known here on the West Coast, and makes it a major issue to find out about any and all products, and especially which ones you can use WITHOUT a hashgocha.

He is very detail oriented and can easily be reached through his website. He is a teacher at Emek Hebrew Academy, an orthodox day school in Los Angeles (in the Valley, actually)

The Rabbi (masgiach) at my local grocery store told me that any product from KELLOGS with a "k" is acceptable because they know which Rav it is that certifies it. Usually a plain "k" means nothing - this is a special circumstance.

Here's the answer I recieved from the OU:

Quote:
Thank you for checking with the OU regarding your Kashruth question.

The Kellogg products that bear the K or the KD symbol are in fact certified by the

'Vaad of Massachusetts'.

177 Tremont Street

Boston, MA 02111

(617) 426 2139

(617) 426-6268 fax

Rabbi@KVH613.org is their E-mail Address

Rabbi Abraham Halbfinger

So if you trust the VAAD of Massachussetts, you're good to go!
