Here are a few stats that I found in a French newspaper, Le Figaro...

GENERAL

France is the 3rd community in the world, the 1st in Europe, with around 600 000 Jews.

Paris and Parisian area: 320 000
Marseille: 75 000
Lyon: 25 000
Nice: 20 000
Toulouse: 20 000
Strasbourg: 16 000

68% of the Jews describe themselves as Sephardic, 22% as Ashkenazic, 6% as both (although imho there are many half-half who consider themselves either S or A anyway), 4% "other" (converts?).

POLITICS

37.4% of the Jews are left wing, against 35.6% of the French
39.3% of the Jews are right wing, against 29.1% of the French
4.9% of the Jews are neo fascist, against 10.1% of the French
18.4% of the Jews don't care, against 25.2% of the French

The most right wing are 50+ or less than 35.

ISRAEL

Since 1948, about 60 000 French Jews left for Israel, 26 000 came back.

48% feel "very close" to Israel, 38% "rather close", 11% "rather distant", 3% "very distant".

Almost 3 out of 4 Jewish families has family in Israel.

Interesting! Thanks for posting.

I'm scratching my head a bit at the figure that 4.9% of Jews describe themselves as "neo-fascist", but the figure of 10% for the general population is also distrurbing.
