To make FlyLady work, you need to follow her 31 beginner steps, and not try to read and do everything at once.

precisely why I don't like her system. why should I clean my house in the order she determines? An intelligent adult should be able to determine for herself what needs to be done first--and for most people, I'd wager that polishing the sink ain't it!

Chen, for some of us, we need to be able to follow instructions. And the sink first is just to have a clean focal point that the house can get cleaned around.

If you already know what to do and how to do it (and you do!), you don't need FlyLady.

chen I also cant stand flylday, I tried it for a month and I wanted to scream it drove me insane I became even more unproductive with flylady. I have friends who always complain that they cant keep the house clean and organized, so I think when you have a family with husband and chidren and you included it is hard to keep it all in order. the best thing is to relax, take a deep breath and do what you can, I think the kitchen, bathroom and the livingroom are the most important places to clean, bedrooms if kids are old enough should try to help you out with. washing floors can be done ones a week, sweeping depends on time. I dont have a house and an overly nig apartment so I am ok in the cleaning department and my husband doesnt care and he usually helps out and I am teaching my two year old to clean after himself

My routines look long, but if you look at it, it's things you'd probably do anyway:

Modeh Ani/Negel Vasser
Get dressed
Brush teeth/wash face
Brachos/tehillim
Eat/drink/vitamin

The rest of the AM routine take about 10 minutes altogether (beds, bathroom, put away/wash dishes, clean up hotspots, and put up a load of laundry).

Before Bed:

Clear dinner table-would do anyway
Wash dishes/clear sink-should do anyway
Put out clothes for tomorrow-helps a lot! Takes about 1 minute.
Bath/shower-would do anyway
Brush teeth/wash face-would do anyway
Pajamas-would do anyway
Clear hotspots-Takes 5 minutes at most
Fill negel vasser/krias shema-should do anyway
Relax, go to sleep!-not a chore Smile

When I remember how I was before hopping on the FlyLady wagon, I can't imagine how I thought I would get my act together...I wouldn't have had any idea how to organize my time, how to figure out what to do when, etc., and as a result, my house was a disaster.

The main chap of her system is that I don't have to think-just follow directions and develop good habits. I have other things to do besides devise my own methods, it's much easier since someone else did it for me. I personally cannot imagine sitting with lots of books and putting systems together, it's easier just to follow one system and have all that work done for me.

im a creative personality, with issues on judging just how long any given job will take. flylady gives me tools that work. im not perfect, and I still have hot spots, but by going thru her plan month after month, stuff is finally getting done.
I have already gotten rid of, and continue to declutter an amazing amount of stuff. that is critical to this system.
doesnt look like ill be able to change mys style any time soon, not sure if I want to, but this sytem keeps myself and my family happily organized and clean enough.
and thats good enough for me.
