Isn't it odd that all week we can eat the same food and never get sick of it, but when it comes to shabbos we seem to always need some change? just a thought. strange no?

you eat the same food all week?
about Shabbos, the changes in menu seem to be a new thing
the traditional (Ashkenazic) Shabbos menu Fri. night was usually:
gefilte fish
chicken soup
roast chicken
tzimmes
potato/lukshen kugel
maybe farfel
compote
they didn't decide between hundreds of chicken recipes, they didn't make exotic (or any?) salads, same thing, every week

I seem to have the same every shabbos, boring but when else do I get to have chicken soup and kneidels and chicken and sometimes meat. My everyday meals are lighter, which explains why on shabbos day I can't eat anything. Yom tov is another thing, especially when there is shabbos straight after, that is when I need a change.

this menu was created by the awailability and what peple could afford.
We actually make a different menue with our favorites once in a while

Dunno, my mother served the exact same Shabbos menu (down to the salad - always and only cucumber salad) for at least 20 years and we happily ate it. Whereas during the week, we always had complaints - hamburgers again!! - and my mother had to be creative.

growing up we always had the exact same shabbos menu every week. one my mother was introduced to a new salad, and now that's added to the shabbos menu every week. never ever any change. boy do I change my shabbos menu now that I'm doing it myself:)

Actually, that's not true.
The farfel Friday night is said to be a segulah for Parnossah. That's why it's eaten.
Eggs or chopped liver, Shabbos day, are Zecher LeMohn.

We always ate the same food for shabbos every single week - if we ever went out for a meal and eat different foods we would miss friday night roast chicken. Now in my own home its the same thing! We look forward to shabbos food all week.

In my mothers house we always had the same thing, once in a while it would vary but only shabbos day meal, and never would anything be replaced just added. If anyone would mess with friday night menu complaints would be non stop, we always liked the exace same things over and over.
In my house fri night is always the same, shabbos day varies if I have guests or not. Whats fri ngiht without soup and chicken?

of course certain foods are traditional, but we have to eat what we like, too. there has to be a balance.
cholent bothers DH's stomach so I don't always serve that.
of course if guests come they expect everything so I don't disappoint them, but all of us don't like/eat all the courses.

and the souls of reincarnated tzadikim are in fish that are eaten l'kavod Shabbos
there's symbolism to many of the foods - check out the terrific book "Shabbos Secrets" for more info.
