Jewelry - ask at the store what is in fashion
Gift certificate for trendy clothing store
Restaurant voucher for her and a friend
The idea is that girls this age want to be thought of as mature, independent and with it.

What is she doing after high school? Maybe think about something to do with that.

I agree.
If she's heading to college, or out on her own, I say tools. Yes, tools. Every woman should have basic tools, and know how to use them. Nothing fancy. A hammer. Phillips head and regular screwdriver. Pliers. Tape measure. That's a good start.

This is so wrong. Every young woman should remain in need of tools and someone to use them for her, so that she can establish fatherlike bonds with men in her new life who will develop paternal feelings of responsibility to redt her shidduchim.
Hey, you were asking for that!

an overnight bag. She will appreciate it a lot because she will be going away for shabbosim very often. A soft one is better than a wheely, because its lighter and more practical to travel with.

My daughter got a mini Leatherman multi-tool for her Bat Mitzvah from someone. She really loved it :)
