We're getting one in our new apt and I've never used one! I have to get special and I assume Kosher soap for it, right?

Use Cascade - its Kosher & very good. Comes in tablets & liquid form.
As for loading, we did when we had one, but I'm not sure if you are allowed to.
Also, try to rinse off the dishes asap after taking them off the table so the dishwasher doesn't have so much to clean off.
I had a problem putting my bechers in it. They tarnished them real bad. And did something weird to the flat beater of my Kitchen Aid. Otherwize, they are great! Use it whenever there are a lot of dishes - even during the week.

Cascade works well. I personally find it easier to wash the dishes than to rinse, load, unload, and check if it's perfect. Also, most dishwashers can take up to 2 hours. Who wants to wait that long?
Just wondering, if your new house's previous owner was non kosher, can a dishwasher be toiveled for use?
