I named my daughter Sarah Adele, after my grandmother. We call her Adele and I heard it comes from Udle- like "uh-dl," which was the name of the Ba'al Shem Tov's daughter.
Does anyone know more about the name Adele or Udle?

my cousins name is Odel, she was born on shavuos which is if I am not mistaken the ba'al shem tovs b/day so they named after his daughter

That's interesting. I didn't know the spelling. I know the second day of Shavuous was his Yeirtziet, and I think his b-day was the same. Adele was born a little before Shavuous.

Adel/Odel/Udel/Eidel is a Yiddish name meaning refined.
The English name Adele comes from the same Germanic root.

really? that's so cool! I had a classmate adele, pronounced a-DELL, whom we used to tease by calling AY-dl (her hebrew name was Ida) just as we called Belle BAYleh (when we were being nice and not calling her Belly, of course.)
