that's why I usually buy a new robe (if I buy anything at all.) even if I gain or lose weight, it will still fit. I know I'll get good use out of it.

how do you know what you'll fit into? if you're pg at the time you buy it, you have no idea what size to buy, and if you're not pg at the time you buy it, what if you GET pg?! If I'd never be pregnant, I'd probably never need new clothes, because they'd all fit!!

yes, for those of us who only go to shul on yom tov, the clothing hardly gets worn. I am trying, now that I am not pg and have lost most of my weight, to wear nicer things on a regular shabbos when I am home, but it's hard.

I spent my entire second pregnancy WAITING to be not pregnant so I could wear "nice" clothes. I think that attitude was WRONG. People can look nice pg too. (But I think it was that way because I had JUST FINISHED being pregnant with dd#1! - four month break)

I consider the clothes for non preg times, I am fortunate to have started sort of a merry go round of preg (and after preg bigger sizes) clothes with my sister and two others and those wardrobes get shared and replenished by everyone.

I'll be apx 26 weeks pregnant for pessach, so I'll probably actually go out and buy something. My other pregnancies were in a different season (I have winter kids) so I'll need something more summerish for this one.

AAMOF, for some people, shopping for clothing and shoes is arduous and burdensome. For those of you for whom it is a pleasure--enjoy. For the rest of us, let's get together and do something we enjoy.
I'd personally be much happier to have dh hire someone to take some of the yomtov chores off my hands than give me a bracelet to adorn those hands.

Chen: I am not a big fan of shopping either but that is really not the point. The point is that the Rambam informs us what constitutes "simchas yom tov." Please see the first post of this thread for the exact quote.

I dont get the point of this thread as it seemns to me this mitzva obligates the man to provide s/t new for his wife and kids so maybe on a site for men the question should be posed ,did you purchase new clothes/ jewlery? Here it can only cause jeolousy and possibly lack of shalom bais in homes where there is nary an extra penny to spare after matzos , wine and all the endless things needed to fullfill the mitzvos of pesach Sometimes we as women have to stop and think before we speak or post as the case may be.

You're taking this way too seriously. There is no problem with discussing getting a new outfit for Pesach. Nobody said you have to go to Brenda's or Talking Fashion and spend mega bucks. You can go to Penny's or Old Navy and buy something inexpensive that makes you feel great. I think almost anyone could afford one 30.00 ourfit for themselves.

oh and by the way I apologize for taking this thread too seriosly,but maybe it is hurtful to others just asking oh did you get your new jewlery/clothing when they have to literally borrow hundreds of dollars to feed and clothe their families for yom tov(children unlike us adults dont stay the same size, constantly growing out of shoes/clothes) and to purchase all the things neccesary for yom tov.

I once complimented a woman on her earrings and she told me they cost $2.
I think it is appropriate to discuss a halacha that pertains to us though I hear your point. When it comes to clothes, the woman usually buys it for herself.
(Jewelry - either husband or wife.)

I feel Great!
I'm not embarrassed to say:
I treated myself to 2 nice pairs of undies and a nice Bra, last night.
I would LOVE to get a new shaitel, but we have alot of expenses coming up.
So, I think I'll wait with that one....

considering that a woman is permitted to waive the right to receive from her husband certain things stipulated in the kesubah, e.g., clothes and other forms of support, I would think that she is permitted to waive the right to new clothes and jewelry on Yom Tov.
There is certainly in rambam's statement room for personal preference, as he says that rejoicing must be in a manner appropriate to the individual. Now if my dh can afford only a $2 pair of earrings and I feel utterly tacky and degraded wearing such things--no matter how charming you find them-- I can see precious little simchas yomtov in that. I'll wear my late grandmother's genuine pearls that make me feel like a million bucks, thank you very much.

since you're not a rabbi, how about checking with one instead of assuming?

AAMOF I checked with my LOR and he said that, while getting new clothes and shoes was a praiseworthy thing to do (he had no opinion on jewelry at all), it was not an absolute requirement. Doubtless your rabbi disagrees.

Thank you for your kind wishes. My simchas yomtov -- which I am privileged to report I had in spades-- came from having my family all at home and at the table at the same time; sharing sedorim and meals with friends, neighbors and relatives, especially families with babies who cannot come over on shabbosim because there is no eruv in our area; enjoying the special niggunim that our chazzan brings out for yomtov and the special guest rov that the shul invited to speak; hearing lots of divrei torah at the table; having the opportunity to read a new book and similar yomtov delights.
Oh, you meant gashmius? Lots of that, too: delicious special foods and beverages that we serve only on Pesach; our finest tableware and linens; professionally-done yomtov clothing, shoes and haircuts; invisible-clean windows (Dirt is not chometz, but what sort of simchas yomtov is it when I cannot see the sparkling blue sky through grimy glass?) and more along these lines.
I guess I must be an ignorant peasant, because it doesn't take new clothes and jewels to give me simchas yomtov. Not that new clothes ever hurt anyone, and not that I don't enjoy them when I have occasion--just that I don't find them necessary to my happiness. I derive plenty of joy from the jewelry and yomtov clothes I already have--maybe because I wear them only on Shabbos and YomTov and not at any other time.
Hope you enjoyed your new clothes and jewelry at least as much as I enjoyed last year's model.
