Years ago, my eyelashes were burned in a fire and never got back to their thick curly state again.
I recently started wearing mascara but it’s messy, bothersome to take off if it’s waterproof, and I can’t wear it on Shabbos...and I’m always concerned about getting it all off before mikvah, waterproof or not.
So – I saw and ad, made myself an appointment, and had them tinted! I wanted extensions, but the technician said they were more for occasions as showering is hard on them (and the mikvah ramifications are great; another thing that makes me look forward to menopause)…
Anyway, it cost $12, took about 10 minutes, and didn’t hurt or sting (much).
And now it looks like mine are darker and thicker. I added some mascara but I didn’t have to, and I’m pretty happy!

I also do it. it's great. you don't need to wear mascara, and you always look nice.
$12 is cheap, where'd you do it? I pay about 20-25

I went to a place in the Village; Randee Elaine's on South 7th Street.
Thought I'd check out places near my office - the only one that does it is $35 but includes some sort of treatment for the eyes.
too much for me!

I always thought that this would be a problem in the same way as a tattoo would be (regarding mikvah). Is it not? I am very excited about the thought that I actually COULD do it, cause my eyelashes are so light, and I hate wearing make-up every day!
So is it really not a problem at all?
Thanks
DK

I don't know for sure, but I think it's the same as dyeing your hair. Permanent makeup is a problem.

You reminded me of when I did that before my wedding it's so much fun. Maybe I'll do it again and see if I feel like a bride again!

Thanks RivkaBatya - I think that is what I was thinking about (the permanent make-up). I guess it makes sense that this is more like hair dye!

It's a dye, but it's not exactly like doing your own hair, b/c you can see the hair dye growing out.

of course I'm not a rov, but I dont think that a tatoo is a mikva problem since it is UNDER the skin. (that is, if someone has a tatoo, I dont think it would be a mikva issue) The problem with a tatoo is simply - it's an issuer d'oraysa not to have a ksoves kaka.
I dont know if tinted eyelashes are a mikva problem - anyone know?

Just logically, why would eyelash tinting be any different than hair dye?

Here are my questions and the replies:
Dear Questioner,
Your question to the Nishmat Women's Online Information Center, and the answer,
follow:
QUESTION
I have my eyelashes dyed; with a vegetable dye that comes off by itself. What
is the procedure with mikvah? Thanks.
ANSWER
If a woman clearly wishes an item to be present for cosmetic reasons, then in
some cases it may not be considered a chatzitzah.
So long as the dye is maintained well enough that you find it aesthetically
pleasing when you immerse, there is no problem. Ideally, you would re-dye the
eyelashes before each immersion (but not immediately before, lest there be dye
adhering to the skin around the eye). Even better would be to forgo the dye or
to opt for a permanent dye, which is more likely to remain as you desire.
Dear Questioner,
Your question to the Nishmat Women's Online Information Center, and the answer,
follow:
QUESTION
I am considering having an eyelash weave. I'm not certain what is involved, but
it is something like eyelashes are added, which come out by themselves over a
few weeks or a month's time. How would this fit in with mikvah? Thanks.
ANSWER
Regular false eyelashes have to be removed before immersion. An eyelash weave
might be acceptable, since the lashes are meant to stay in permanently.
However, if they come out by themselves, this poses another problem, since at
some point enough might come out that your eyelash weave would not be exactly
as desired. We do not recommend getting an eyelash weave, as it could lead to
difficulties.
In a case where it might be very important to get them (as in someone
undergoing chemotherapy), they could be immersed with so long as they would be
professionally maintained shortly prior to each immersion.
