For those with experience, were you allowed to stay with your baby until the anesthesia set in?

Yes. Most pediatric hospitals allow one parent in.

Yes, although I must warn you that I found it one of the most harrowing aspects of being a mother.

I was also allowed to stay with our son when he went to sleep with the gas. It was so cute but so incredibly sad - he was sneaking his bottom lip out the bottom of the mask to breathe regular air, I kept poking it back in. I didn't find it distressing but he was not at all anxious or upset when he went under (which also meant it took longer) and it was a pretty simple procedure (tongue-tie correction). It wasn't in the operating room though, it was a side room and I placed him on a bed when he went to sleep that they then wheeled in. He was 22 months old at the time.

My DD had tubes put in her ears at 11.5 months. I stayed with her until she was asleep.

I thought the only time they don't let you in is if it's an emergency ...

when sonny boy had to be put under - his dad stayed with him till he fell asleep from anesthesia ... only one of us was allowed in ...

by us they gave him a drug to induce amnesia, and we had to say goodbye.
I think it also depends if the child needs to be intubated.
