Disclaimer: Choc. covered pretzels are my favorite dessert in the world Smile

A couple of weeks ago, a very good friend of mine brought us chocolate covered pretzels. They were not good, so much so, that I practically had to force myself to eat them Smile . The pretzels were stale (I don't know if they started out stale or they became stale in the process), the chocolate was not hard, in fact it was very soft so it got all over our fingers. Basically it was a BIG mess.

So, here I am, wanting to make them myself to bring to someone. I bought pretzel rods, figuring that I'll just dip them half way in (she coated them entirely) and then sprinkle them with sprinkles, etc.

I have white chips, reg. choc. chips (pareve), sprinkles, and blue sugar.

Help me make good ones, so I don't waste time and food and make a mess.

TIA

I've made them but I don't really have a recipe.

What about this.

36 pretzel rods (1 package)
12 ounces semisweet chocolate bars
1- 1/2 cups assorted toppings: sprinkles, crushed cookies, toffee bits, or mini M&M's

Directions
1. Heat chopped semisweet chocolate bars in the microwave in 30-second increments until melted.

2. Ladle chocolate over 3/4 of each pretzel rod. Tap or scrape off excess chocolate, then roll pretzel in sprinkles, crushed cookies, toffee bits or mini M&M's

3. Dry on a cooling rack until set.

The picture is very pretty. I think you inspired me to make these 2.

can you use chips instead of bars?

Why were my friend's still wet and not hardened like the ones in the store?

I's say they sweated in their journey to your home. Or maybe she froze it and defrosted it before coming to you? Eeeoow. I know that this is usually a fool=proof dessert. Yum, make sure the pretzels are nice and salty!

When dipping pretzels or fruit in chocolate, don't use only chocolate and don't use good quality choclate - use chocolate chips that have stabilizers in them (I don't know what that means but I learned it on a cooking show).

Melt equal parts chocolate chips and cream (Nutri Whip if you want it to be pareve). When it is melted and smooth dip assorted fruit, pretzels in chocolate and then place on a wax paper lined cookie sheet. Put in fridge for about 1/2 an hour so choclate can firm up.

Aha, now I understand why recipes call for chocolate ships and not baking chocolate. Thanks!

I also use choc chips bec I'm cheap. I don't put anything in it.
One problem I sometimes have is that the chocolate turns white - I'm not sure what causes that.
You can also try drizzling with melted white chocl.

I've made them successfully with melting chocolate chips and dipping in sprinkles. They looked so pretty and professional!!

I was thinking, that maybe this weather (so darn hot!!!) is what's making them flop.....
Maybe try storing them in a container in the freezer, after they harden on baking paper.
G'luck!!

no no freezer! The raid temperature changes from hot to cold is what makes it go white. I say fridge.

Well, thank you all! I made them and some of them turned out very nice - others, didn't - so they just HAD to be eaten. Smile

Next time I'll know not to melt so much chocolate. I had waaaayyy too much. And, I ended up overheating my microwave - isn't that a problem???
