Best cash back credit card out there????

After realizing last night that my credit card took away a 5% cash back on pharmacy, grocery/gas, and only gives back 1%, I am now shopping for a new credit card that gives me back more than 1% on all purchases, just to earn a gift card /award from a rapidly shrinking list of retailers.
For someone who has B"H good credit, can someone recommend a good credit card with no annual fee that can award me for being a good and responsible spender accordingly? I'm really not interested in airlline miles, because I have never found it worth it, unless there is something really great out there.

We have 2 Capital One cards, one which pays back 1% from the first cent, the second which pays back 1.25% from the first cent. I can apply (via the computer) the credit to my statement any time I want - I don't have to wait for any minimum. I have heard some bad things about Capital One, but I think that as long as you pay up on time etc. - there are no issues. That has been our experience, in any case.

There may be a 1% charge, as opposed to the other cards taking 3%. That's why we applied - based on recommendations from an Israeli-Anglo banking list. Their exchange rate is a good one, based on the published bank rates I see here and I sometimes wonder where their 1% commission is.

Why would there be a fee for paying on time? I don't understand. Anyway, go to www.capitalone.com and see what they can offer you. Remember you need a U.S. address.

Many cards offer around 1%. I don't think there are any "amazing" deals out there.

I think my Charles Schwab gives 2% back on all purchases, which is pretty good!

I also recommend the Capital One card...no currency exchange fees, no annual fees, and the one I have lets you pick whatever reward you want when you get enough points (cash back, miles, gifts etc.) I heard the same thing that it's not good if you rack up the credit and don't pay bills on time, but for someone with good credit it's the best thing out there (at least that's what NBN tells us new olim!) I've had mine for about a year now, no problems and I love it.

I live in New York.
Would this card(Capital One) still be appropriate for someone living here, or its more for people living in EY. Also, anyone have a link?

It's meant for the U.S.; it's an American VISA company. People who live abroad like it because they don't charge as large a commission on foreign transactions as other VISA cards do.

I checked it out Capital One. It seems the best I can do for cash back is 1% , and 2% on groceries. Is there anything better out there for someone in NY?
