When you go to buy a robe, how do you decide if its a shabbos robe or a weekday robe? I am never sure. I bought a robe that I think is very nice, too nice to wear it during the week just around the house... but for some reason, because it is not black (its grey with pink embroidered flowers on it) and not fitted, I feel funny wearing it out, when I never had an issue wearing my other shabbos robe out.

What makes a robe shabbosdik?

Obviously, this is directed towards those that WEAR shabbos robes, and not towards those that believe a robe is inherently non tznius and non shabbosdik.

I don't really wear robes, except sometimes on shabbos, and never out the house, but I would think th e same as clothes - what makes something shabbosdik? of course this can vary from place to place and person to person. a cotton print unfitted robe is probably not shabbosdik. its hard to say from your description, but maybe post a picture.

What makes a robe shabbosdig in my eyes is if it has fake diamonds or lace or satin.

the design, the fabric. some of the robes look like chasuna gowns except it has a zipper in the front.

If it's new, and you aren't sure, keep it for shabbos for a season or two.

I think it's like anything else, it's in the eye of the beholder (and the style of the community). I have things I wear for weekday and I see other people wearing very simmilar for Shabbos. My kids have dresses that I call gan dresses, and I have seen girls running around in the same Israeli dress on Shabbos. And their are some things I would wear on Shabbos other people would consider weekday. If you don't feel comfortable going out in it on Shabbos, maybe keep it for Shabbos at home?

I think a plain velvet robe can be shabbosdik depending on the style. or even plain cotton.

In our circles, it has a lot to do with the price. Say, I bought a black velour robe, with a white horsey on the upper left corner, black and white banding going round the armholes, and down the sides. It was sold as "vochen". Cost less than the "shabbos". But, I wear it either or. I am wearing it right now, but when it is clean, and I want to, I wear it shabbos too. It is more comfortable than my shabbos ones.
