my 2 year old blinks a lot. not all the time, but sometimes he blinks so much that im nervous that there is something wrong with him. should I bring him to the doctor just for this? I am not a hypochondriac but the doctor is starting to think I am. not that that isnt a reason to take your kid to the doctor.

From a speech therapist's point of view it can be a secondary characteristic for stuttering. He may just be beginning to string words together and his language is in his head and difficult to come out so its a behavior that does not help and needs to be rid of. Also, from experience with children with excessive eye blinking we always recommend a neurologist to rule out any problems. it doesnt hurt! good luck

IMO its just a phase. kids go through weird phases especially if your kid just realized how interesting it is that his eyes blink....

so when you kid picks his nose bc he finds his nostril and becomes obsessed with keeping it in there, does it mean there's a problem, no its just a phase, and this too shall pass.

Ok so I know this thread is two years old, but I have the same problem with my toddler daughter.

I found the post of Fiddle hilarious and comforting. Any other amothers that had an exessively blinking toddler? How long did it last?

Is this all the time? Or a new thing?

Once my son spiked a very high fever when he had a virus. For about a week or two after he was blinking constantly. The doctor attributed it to the fever which dried out his eyes. B"H he got back to himself and we didn't have to do anything further. Although sometimes they do give the child eye drops.
