Has anyone made this before?
Can you please give me 'exact' instructions and recipe on how to do it?
Do I need any special thermometers or stuff for it?

Really not so much work. Spice and Spirit Cookbook has 2 recipes - the bottom one works well. Or this recipe is easy and quick http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-make-toffee-apples
No specialist equipment necessary, just make to let the sugar boil long enough, so that it should harden.
