This article is so witty in its account of the Brown-Obama press conf.
The author is very humourous (note the spelling!).

Why the eye roll about a British conservative paper?
There are hundreds of liberal media outlets here in the US... newspapers, magazines and TV channels, almost all of which will claim to be "objective."
At least in England the papers are up front about being aligned with political parties.
Anyway, the my original post was about the humor, not the politics.

I read it more as an Englishman making fun of his Prime Min.

no, I think that paper is always a bit obvious. Actually the more intellectual papers, while everyone knows the guardian is left wing and the telegraph right wing, would never print such a biased piece. and they wouldn't make fun of politicians for their names or ages.
also, stupid mistake: there is no such thing as a Jewish harp. its called a jew's harp.

| well, obviously there were many news coverage of Pres & Mrs O, but this one totally slipped my radar (not that I read DM). I read the whole article but didn't find anything humorous about it. Just bunch of cliches. Sad case to demonstrate the state of British journalism, I'm afraid.

| I wonder whether the UK media registered any distaste for how the Obamas gave little respect to Brown and the Queen (when he wouldn't lower his head for her when he met her), yet he gave a nice full bow to the King of Saudi Arabia.

He didn't lower his head for the Queen? How humiliating. I hereby renounce my American citizenship.
On the other hand, I suspect you might have voted for this fellow:

Obama would have to give Liz a big, wet kiss on the mouth to embarrass me more than that guy.

obama did give the queen a personalized ipod. I don't mind if I don't get a stupid bow if I get an ipod.
and apparantly michelle did hug the queen.

Hey Clarissa! We've missed your exaggerated sense of humor around here.
Seriously, the Queen and Prime Min of our strongest ally have earned, and deserve, a sign if respect from our president. A nod of the head was all that protocol demanded. What would have been wrong with that?
As for the iPod. Mark Steyn joked how it was probably pre-loaded with a lot of Obama's speeches for the Queen to enjoy. (P.S. President Obama, I'll take mine loaded with Abba, please!)
I know I don't need to tell you that that bowing to the King of Saudi, a full bow is a sign of subservience. Saudi Arabia is not an ally, if anything its just an important business partner that harbors Anti American sentiment and of course was the training ground of the 9-11 terrorists.
Anyhow, neither the bow, or the lack of it, was appropriate. I know this doesn't bother you Clarissa, but it bothers me. Make fun if you want.

so I googled for this story of how obama did not bow to the queen and all I found was an american republican website incandescant with rage that he did indeed bow his head. (I would find it strange and indeed inapproaprioate for a president not to follow protocal)
on the subject of queens and protocal, here is a timely joke:
A Jewish man was waiting in line to be knighted by the Queen of England. He was supposed to kneel and recite a sentence in Latin. Comes his turn, he kneels, the Queen taps him on the shoulders with the sword ... and in the panic of excitement he forgets the Latin line. Thinking quickly, he recites the only other line he knows in a foreign language which he remembers from the Passover Seder: "Mah nishtana ha-lailah ha-zeh mi-kol ha-leilot." The puzzled Queen turns to her adviser and asks, "Why is this knight different from all other knights?"
and I'm sure william or harry will be happy to reprogramme the ipod for the queen.

I, too, Googled and all I found were rants on Republican websites and blogs. He's a head of state, he's not required to bow. Anyway, I haven't found a news source that made anything of this and hope to find one that even mentioned it. The sites I saw were far from news sites. Maybe it's not such big news?
Look btMOM, after I googled, I did a search of your threads and posts on the News Forum. You detest the guy, I get it. He's evil. He says the wrong things, does the wrong things, eats the wrong foods, wears the wrong colors, uses the wrong shampoo, etc. I get it. You don't like him. Were you equally incensed when your president gave the German Chancellor a back rub, and she was clearly appalled? If so, please direct me to that thread. I wouldn't want to think that you were obsessed to the point that your posts about politics were focused on something less than important to world peace. One guy started a war the rest of the world hates. This guy didn't bow before the queen. Yup, I get it. The end of world peace.
WHY OH WHY DIDN'T HE BOW!!??????

| Correction: How come new sources didn't freak out about this terrible breach of protocol. Still Googling over here. How could they put this on the back burner? Don't they care about what matters?
