it's embarrassing to hear that THIS is a rock group.... sounds pretty tame in comparision to our Jewish music.

this is an old one!! seen many times. this is one major example that e/o uses is saying Jewish music really not,(also dedi's 'zoche')
this is far from the first time I've heard a song, and recognized the Jewish copy/spin off.

really? please fill me in!

what is Dedi's Zoche from?

I know that Piamenta's "Asher Bara" is from the Aussi group "Men at Work"

and of course this (my original post) is quite old as the original Ghengis Khan was a hit at Eurovision in Israel in 1992, but I only HEARD about it, never saw it until now!

How about this one from Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat? I couldn't find a better link, but if you go to this page and then click on the song "Close Every Door" even that short clip should sound familiar too.

The first time I heard the MBD version years ago, I said: "Hey, I know that song! I grew up in Europe so I've heard this song first as a really small child.

There was also a jewish song don't remember which one sung to the tune of Lambada, which was a movie about a very steamy latin dance. When I was in high school we learnt the dance to it, (the jewish dance I mean of course, NOT the latin dance LOL ) Anyone else remember it?

I vaguely remember that when yidden first came out people were saying it was a german rock song.

This reminds me: I once read a frum book that depicted heart surgery and then I found the same section, word for word, in a Robin Cook novel.

Dschinghis Khan - The german way of saying Genghis Khan - a medieval Mongolian warlord.

Quote:

Dschinghis Khan- translation from the German
Hu hectar...
They rode around the bet with the steppe wind
Thousands men - hectar hu hectar
And one rode in front, followed all blindly
Dschinghis Khan - hectar hu hectar
The hooves of their horses, whipped the sand
They carried fear and fright into each country
And neither lightning nor thunder stopped it

Hu hectar
Dschingh, Dschingh, Dschinghis Khan
He rider, ho rider, he riders, ever further
Dschingh, Dschingh, Dschinghis Khan
On brothers, drink brothers, rauft brothers, again and again
Let still Vodka get - hohohoho
Because we are Mongols - hahahaha
And the devil kriegt us early enough

Dschingh, Dschingh, Dschinghis Khan
He rider, ho rider, he riders, ever further
Dschingh, Dschingh, Dschinghis Khan
He of men, ho men, dances men, as always
And one hears it laugh - hohohoho
Laugh ever louder - hahahaha
And it empties the jug in a course

And each woman, who pleased him, it took itself
Into its tent - hectar hu hectar
It was called, the woman, it did not love gave it not
In the world - hectar hu hectar
it witnessed seven children at one night
And over its enemies it only laughed
Because its strength konnt ' none resist

Hu hectar
Dschingh, Dschingh, Dschinghis Khan
He rider, ho rider, he riders, ever further
Dschingh, Dschingh, Dschinghis Khan
On brothers, drink brothers, rauft brothers, again and again
Let still Vodka get - hohohoho
Because we are Mongols - hahahaha
And the devil kriegt us early enough

Dschingh, Dschingh, Dschinghis Khan
He rider, ho rider, he riders, ever further
Dschingh, Dschingh, Dschinghis Khan
He of men, ho men, dances men, as always
And one hears it laugh - hohohoho
Laugh ever louder - hahahaha
And it empties the jug in a course

Hectar hu...

Thanks for the link. It is also an MBD song, I just can't remember which one. I think it's on the "Jerusalem Nor For Sale" album and if I remember correctly is also in Yiddish.

OK, I was just reminded that there is a Dusty Springfield song called "I only want to be with you" from 1964 that has also has the same tune as Yidden.

It's "HaYom" from the "Jerusalem Not for Sale" tape. Can I play 'name that tune'?
