I waited many many months for it and it was a nice thick book.

The story is about Rashi's daughters, as the title suggests. The author is a historian and I'm sure worked hard to make it accurate.

I'm just really wonder if that's what they were lilke, that's all.

This book was about Jocheved. The next one features Miriam.

I think there was a thread on that already.

Most of the posters seemed to think that it was exaggerated and not true.

I finally found what you all mean. It wasn't written in a easy to follow style at all.

Truth be told, I stopped after Red TEnt.

anyone read any of them? I am now reading the second book, in the trilogy, and actually loving the story.

I love historical fiction so that may be why I love them so much.

I actually regret reading them. The author put Rashi's daughters on such an "earthy" level. You gotta realize that Rashi's daughters were definitely on a higher spiritual level than any "Jane" in those days.

I even doubt any Jane (or should be it Jeanne? Jehanne? lol) behaved as they did in the books in such highly religious times, when the non jews too didn't behave like that.

I really enjoyed the book. it is not written all as truth, it is a historical fiction book. I would say go for it. I have already read the second one as well, miriam.

I enjoyed these first two books very much. It's important to keep in mind that they are fiction, and not necessarily the real story of Rashi's daughters. I really enjoyed getting a picture of Jewish French provincial life a thousand years ago.

Oh, and by the way, I absolutely detested The Red Tent. I'm sorry I read that one. In order to "detoxify" myself I had to go back to Sefer B'reishis and learn it correctly again!

I finished the book. It was not bad and the proof is: I finished it. Some things bothered me. Like the description of nidda (no touching, no handing things) yet she notes Meir doing exactly those things to/for Jocheved after childbirth. I wish authors would stick to facts!

I agree that the book was too mundane. Why take the daughters of one of the biggest gedolim of our history down to such earthy levels? What really disturbed me was the explicit sexuality in the book.

I must add that I was intrigued by reading about Jewish life in medieval France. I finished the first book and am now half through the second one. If the third one is ever published, I am not sure I would read it. Probably not.
