BTW the video was very funny
I might lose my head for this ? but I'm asking op sincerely here... funny as it is, does this speech violate laws of lashon harah by listening to it? I'm working on L.H. but am not yet proficient.

Which conservative school do his children attend?
I knew of orthodox families that chose the conservative elementary schools because they were better suited educationally for their children, but that they went on to orthodox HS and are religious.

I don't think so SarahO... it's kind of like a Purim shpiel where the people being "roasted" are involved in the joke and willing participants. But then again, what if the person touches on something the guy doesn't want the world to know about... could get complicated...

I think Anshe Emett. It's a drastic choice if you're Orthodox.

I think Anshe Emett. It's a drastic choice if you're Orthodox. It's not certain the children are Jewish in any case. |
Why do you question the Jewishness of his children?
Listen, I don't like Obama either, but if he is a religious Jew, even if he isn't Orthodox, I am assuming his wife is Jewish. _________________ But then again, I'm a dragon.

Yeah, I had seen that article and made the same comment to my dh.
I believe his kids are in that school b/c that's where he went to school. I know you have "all flavors" of Orthodox schools, but you also have all flavors of people unhappy with all of them . (We've considered moving to Chicago)

Is questioning whether or not a conversion was valid lashon hara?

If she is Jewish, I think it is possibly worse than just lashon hara as we mitzvahs regarding the treatment of gerim.....
Edited lashon hara out - and wanting to add "what toeles is there to discussing someone's conversion? It's an issue for beis din, not the yentas of imamother"

| I was thinking about this again. IIRC, the shaila is about beis din accepting someone who wants to convert knowing they want to marry a Jew, not that their conversion is "pasul" once it is done. I'll have to ask dh when he gets home, but I'm quite confident I remember learning that once they are converted, if they are sincere in keeping shabbos, kashrus and taharas hamishpach (the "big three") there is no shaila about the conversion. I also know that there are many teshuvas about why the whole "not allowing them to convert for marriage" doesn't apply in this day and age (if someone wants to start a thread we could discuss that there). Bottom line, if this woman was accepted by an Orthodox beis din and is keeping "the big three" it's pretty disgusting to be speculating that "she may not be Jewish".

To imamothers in general, I have a suggestion: when you think someone has spoken lashon hara here, instead of publicly humiliating them, why not PM them? Kind of hypocritical to publicly accuse someone of being disgusting for saying Lashon Hara, don't you think?
LeahW, you might be right, but if you aren't sure, better not to say (unless we were talking about a shidduch here)

| Thanks AMMom. So I edited my posts and now the only references to the L"H are those of you who quoted and chastised me... That I would call ironic. I'm pretty makpid about L"H, but sometimes I slip up. Next time PM me. Thanks.

Which reminds me of how important it is to be careful about LH when one is posting as amother. Because being careful about it when posting under your own name, but not so when you're posting anonymously -- that is pretty ironic. Too bad we can't let amothers know by pm when they've done this!
I just thought I'd post a little PSA, while we're discussing the evils of LH.
