Fingerprint clearance - new york dept. of ed

I read on the ny dept. of ed site that it takes 16 weeks for fingerprint clearance. this is terrible! I have a job offer but I just am getting fingerprinted now. can the school let me work with pending fingerprint clearance? I really really need the money. im so worried I will have to wait four months, thats too long. anyone have experience with this?? (I have my certification to work in the schools, but fingerprints are also a requirement. I dont know if they will be ok before they are cleared.)

3boys, were you allowed to work while the fingerprint clearance was pending? a month is very long for me to wait to start working.

I work for EI so I can only say that with EI clearance from central registry takes about 1 month

They will not allow you to work afaik until your prints have cleared. They are not allowed to hire you ooficially- and I am sure you understand why. You can call HR at the Dept of ed and ask more specific questions about how long etc.
