Tonight I would like to make a very basic spagehtti and meatballs.
Do I need to brown the meatballs before cooking them in the sauce? _________________ "G-d I trust will understand, I'm not so sure about the neighbors.." -Yentl

Ok, and cook them in the simmering sauce?
I was looking up recipes online and some called for browning the meat...I have 3 pounds of meat to make, so I was hoping not to have to do this.
The easier the better!!

mix small pack ground meat with garlic powder, 1 egg, 2 TBL soy sauce, and 2 TBL breadcrumbs.
boil 1 diced onion in a can of tomato sauce plus 1 can water. form balls from meat mixture. when bubbly, drop meat into boiling sauce. let it cook on low for about an hour. add water if necessary.

You can make a sauce before throwing in meatballs-a little flour, oil, few other things or put in tomatoe sauce and spices and cook(I never make them because we don't eat ground meat-yay for picky eaters). _________________ Sunday social program forming in Brooklyn for children with social delays. I like baking the meatballs and then adding them to the sauce b/c then there's a lot less fat.

or the absolute easiest:
1 can hunts tomato sauce
1 can cranberry sauce
heat and stir, throw in meat balls.
I had a HUGE package of meat so I put 5 eggs, garlic powder, black pepper, some matzo meal, and a secret tip for soft meatballs: some seltzer water!!
mixed by hand, made little balls and threw them into the cooking sauce.

I never bother shaping ... just make a meatsauce by browning the meat with onions, fresh garlic, oregano and black pepper ... then I add a jar of marinara sauce add more spices and cook ... so much easier than the patchke ... _________________ don't wonder why people go crazy ... rather wonder why we don't

Ok, I think I have an idea of how I am going to do this.
Like, I said, I have this big package of meat, it was on sale, so I am looking for the easiest possible!
I am planning on mixing the meat with eggs and breadcrumbs...

| I usually dice an onion and add breadcrumbs or matzah meal, garlic powder, and no eggs.

| I always bake the meatballs. So much easier that way. I mix eggs oatmeal mustard ketchup garlic powder (for a kick sometimes chili powder and bbq sauce) into the meat just pour tomato/marinara sauce in pan form meatballs bake covered uncover for several minutes at the end if you like the tops a bit crispyer.

I just put 2 can tomato sauce, 1 small can tomato paste, double the can of water. Mix without heat until all dissolved. Add some salt, splenda and garlic powder
Meatball mixture: Ground meat, eggs, fresh garlic, breadcrumbs. Mix into balls. Add to tomato mixture when hot/boiling. Cover and cook for 50 minutes on low-med. flame.

I agree with this. But if you buy the leaner shoulder meat I think it's less important and you can just drop them right into the sauce and cook in there to save time, energy and mess. But with fattier ground beef I would for sure bake out some of that fat first.

You can put tomato sauce and/or onions in meat balls. _________________

I am happy to report that the meatballs came out fantastic!
We ate them for dinner last night and will eat them again for dinner tonight (with different sides).
