Back in July, my baby tested at the dr's for borderline-high lead.
They said to retest in a month. We were away at a bungalow for August, where the bungalows and chairs and EVERYTHING is old (peeling paint, you name it). So I'm not surprised if the baby ingested more lead from there.
They retested last week and her lead was much higher. Not safe high. I'm hoping it'll go down, now that we're not in the bungalow, but worries me that it was a little high even before we went to the colony.
She had a lab lead test done to confirm results.
I'm wondering if anyone has had this and what you've done.
TIA.

Were the results from the instant test, or from the lab test?
The instant tests have a notorious false positive rate.

feed her a lot of calcium it'll absorb the lead. please this is very serious. if your bungalow is full of lead , and she was high, you should not have exposed her to it.

A friend of mines baby also tested high for lead and it turned out it was from vitamins that her chiropractor prescribed. When she called the office to tell them that the vitamins have high levels of lead the doctor said "well, its organic" and she was like uhhhh...it's still lead. Check any vitamins you might be giving your baby. Lead is highly poisonous and can cause terrible things to your babies system.

People give vitamins to babies that are not prescribed by pediatricians? Crazy.

this does not make any sense. most intelligent adults know that lead is bad. if he became a chiro I assume he is inteligent. chiro's don't prescribe vitamins. that story sounds off to me.

lead poisening is very serious, please be in touch with your doc, and get your baby away from any lead infested enviroment!!

I'm sure there are very intelligent chiropractors out there, but the dumbest person I knew in college (sorry to sound unkind, but it's true) became a chiropractor. Anyway, some of them totally overstep and claim to be able to cure anything. They get involved in medical situations that are totally outside their purview.

This is a true story. I shouldn't have used the word prescribed, more like sold to her.

did he concoct the vitamin himself? because the gov. would not allow a product with high lead levels t be sold in the us.
there are recalls on TOYS that were made with lead, a vitamin containing it would never be allowed.

point is that the OP knows where her child got lead poisening from, and she needs to make sure the child does not come in contact with lead again. don't go to the bungalow colony if its full of lead.

I don't know if this is helpful, but when my ds tested positive for high levels of lead- it was a false positive. Did you do a retest- not the rapid finger one??

please don't make such an incorrect generalization! natural things are not usually unhealthy. in fact, it's (this example, if true is) rare. how about when doctors force you to keep taking a medication you're having an allergic reaction to? this has happened to me twice. and once it was the wrong medicine altogether.

I'm talking about giving infants natural vitamins that can end up being dangerous plants.

usually when they give you the results of the test, the paper says which are acceptable levels and which are not (there is a range).

I took my son to a lab when he was about a year at the suggestion of my pediatrician.

In addition to the health issues of a high lead count, you might now have other issues to deal with. I don't know if things have changed or not but years ago, in NY, if a child was tested with 2 consecutive high lead levels, the labs were mandated to report it to the NYC Department of Health. They will send out an inspector to check your entire house for possible lead contamination areas (ie peeling paint). You will then have to have these areas abated, by an approved company. Then an approved lab will have to check the work that was done to ensure that the lead levels fall into an acceptable range. This is all VERY EXPENSIVE! Please note that you can insist that they not inspect any area that your child(ren) do not frequent (basement, attic, guest rooms, etc)
Hope that it does not come to this.
