Children in front seat of car

For some reason I was under the impression that children under 12 are not allowed in the front seat of a vehicle. My husband brought home the driving manual from the dmv and it doesn't spell out till what age one is not permitted in the front seat only that a child in a child - restraint seat should not be there. Does anyone know what the legal age is for sitting in the front seat?

I know the concept of the air bag being dangerous for small children but what is the age limit?

I think it's more of a "size restriction."
You could have a tall 10 year old and a really little 12 year old.

right on the warning of the air bag sign it states that children under 12 are not advised to sit there ... unfortunately there are many petite women that should hardly sit there as well ... definitely depends on size ...
