Laibel is a nickname for Leib, which is Yiddish for lion. That's why there are a lot of Aryeh Leib's.

Lipa is a short form of Lipman, "beloved man".

Could be, but today it is a separate name. There are people that give the name Lipa at the bris, not Lipman.

I actually think his last name was Heller...something rings a bell

I never said the contrary. A separate name doesn't mean it has no origin.

Yes, last name is Heller. Full first name (or first, second, third and fourth name, not sure how to say in English) is actually Gershon Shaul Yomtov Lipman.

Yomtov Lipman is a common name among his descendency.
