I took my 2 year old daughter to the dr. for her check-up and he told us (I knew this would be coming) that it's time to get rid of the paci. He suggested two methods: cold turkey or snip a little bit off of it each night until there's nothing left and she won't want it.
Any suggestions?
Also, we're hoping to move her to a bed soon. Should we chuck the paci before or after the move to the bed?
(p.s. she is pretty attached to the paci. she's only allowed to have it when she's in her crib, and we're pretty strict about that. the second we put her in the crib at naptime/bedtime she looks and asks for the paci. so I have a feeling that it's gonna be a hard separation)

| I've never tried this, so I don't know if it would work, but maybe try taking it out of her mouth once she's asleep?

0613... I could've written your post! (Except my Dr. doesn't know about the pacifier!)
People are telling me all the time that if she only has it in bed then there's no problem, but she just turned 2, I think she's old enough.
I can't wait to hear all the advice from the more experienced moms out there...

My son is now 4 K'H, and not to scare anyone but we went for a Dr's visit before school started. The first thing the Dr. mentioned was when had I taken away the Pacifier. I asked him why and he said since I let my son have it till 3 it actually changed the shpae of my sons jaw and he might C'V need sorrective surgery when he gets older
Thank G-d my daughter doesn't like it because I would've pulled it out of her mouth on the spot.

I'm not a mother but I have experience, so I hope my answer qualifies.
I think you should take it away before changing to a bed. try a little bit every night and tell her that she is a big girl, going into a big girl bed and in big girl bed only big kids with no pacifiers can sleep there.
I think she will understand, but start teaching it now, not a night before she changes to the big bed. _________________ [url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/wCJdhBs/]

that sounds like a good idea notyetamommy.
timeout, did your son use his pacifier throughout the day, or only at night?
the latest research that I've read is that pacis are fine until age 2, after age 2 ONLY at night, and then there shouldn't be any oral problems.
truth is, I had a paci till I was 4- don't remember how limited (or unlimited) the usage was, and I had a HUGE gap between my 2 front teeth. all it took was 2 years of braces to fix.

I do this with my son, take it out after he falls asleep, doesn't make him less addicted, but at least he can fall back asleep in middle of the night without it. _________________ http://thegr8ride.blogspot.com/

| well basically before my daughters 3rd birthday, I went to her and told her like this, lets throw your sussy in the garbage and then we can write a letter to hashem telling hashem what you did and in return ask hashem for a present whatever you want. Believe me this worked really well, the second I told this she quickly ran to her room put the sussy in the garbage , we wrote the letter and the rest is history.

| I promised my daughter a kitchen set for getting rid of it. On her birthday we are going to "give them away to another baby", and then she will get her kitchen set.

| so we moved her into a bed last week and B"H that's going very well! now, we started cutting a little bit off of her pacifier each night. soon, she won't have much left to suck on, so we'll see what happens then. she hasn't made much of a fuss over the cut paci, but just in case, we have 2 spare whole ones in hiding.

I guess I should post as amother but I never posted like that and I am not planning to start today!!
shock shock my five yr old still has a pacifeir... I tried everything we had it gone for a few months now when she looked into her coat pocket she found a old pacifeir and the rest is history. she started to take it again and I am at my wits end with it.
2 of my kids take it . but not my baby...and I dont know how to get rid of it. we tried everything . I think the only way left is cold turkey

yes I tried everything.... the problem is I get rid of it. and then thenewborn baby is here and then the older child just takes it right out of the newborn mouth.... so I need 2 of it . cant have my newborn yelling and screaming for it... so its like a vichous cyle.
maybe I will completely brake form bottles and zumies . I will say whoever want to light the menerah then cant use bottle and zummies..
I also have a problem is that I cant get rid of it. bc I have a day care. I always need a backup bottle and zumies. incase one parent forgets to bring.

| we stopped "cold turkey" about 3 weeks ago. it wasn't as hard as I expected. she doesn't cry but she does ask for it and if she finds the baby's she'll pop it right into her mouth. when we take it away, she wants to give it "one more hug, one more kiss..."
