She sells wigs at cost price as a chesed. $750-1000. I don't know if she would do a payment plan though. You'll also have to go elsewhere for cut & style - she's not a sheitelmacher. Not going to beat the price though!

In Lakewood there is a store called Sheitels for Less where all the wigs are second hand. You can easily find something nice for under $1,000.

That’s Galit Azar, I’ve gotten from her.
There’s also a Shaitel Gemach in Lakewood, no charge; I’ve gotten from there, too.

$1,000 is only cheap in relation to other wig prices. It’s still a lot of $. But doesn’t need to be $3k.

Chloe wigs are Israeli and are about $1500

Styleswigsbyshira also does sale all over for about $1000

I don't know a ton about this so please correct me if I am wrong but isn't there an issue with buying wigs from just anywhere (like the China example where they cut off their hair for avodah zara reasons). I thought we can only buy from reputable places that cater more to Frum Jews.

I haven’t bought a shetal since I got married and my initial one looks pretty junky. I have gotten several for free! From a local gemach or people who ate giving them away while still in good condition. It’s true that the 2nd hand ones might not be my dream ones, but with a little styling and cutting I have made them work well.

Just be aware that their good looks last only a few months, but at $45 each that's cheaper than a single wash and set in many places... You also have to be willing to try a few, the styles look very different in person than in the catalog. And short will always look better than long for synthetics.

There is a group on facebook 'Wigs you wish you own but you can't afford' that might be of help. Rochelli helps people order wigs from china for great prices. Although I didn't order anything through her, there seems to be a lot of happy customers.

I do not live in NY. but I assume there are places you can buy 2nd hand or just worn a couple times. The prices are so much less and the quality is just as good. ask around. I hope you can find one that is good for you.

Careful with the chinese ones. Not always so cheap and I bought through someone and the hair clumps up. Its a bandfall and in less than a year not even wearable. And no comeback.

I dont live in USA but there should be gemachs.

As my sn suggests, I don't really understand from sheitels because I'm an ardent tichel and scarf wearer.
However, when I'm outside Israel, I sometimes wear wigs to avoid sticking out too much in chu"l.

Synthetic wigs, 10 USD. They have more expensive ones and human hair ones even, still much cheaper than even second hand sheitels.
Why is it "impossible" among sheitel wearers to use wigs like these on a budget?
I think it's what I would do, before thinking of uncovering. Why is it such a no-no?

Feel free to throw the tomatoes, I need to make salads for Shabbat anyway.
