my husband just commented on the fact that I removed Samon from our Yom tov menu. I said that with Samon at $9.99 /lb (and I cannot buy it on sale this week because he won't eat it frozen) I did not think we should buy it. There are lots of other special things we can eat instead.
He said that if it is special for yom tov you should spend the money.
Is anybody cutting down on their Yom Tov food buying because of the cost of some foods? A lot of stuff is more expensive then last year.
I know it is for Yom Tov but I feel bad spending so much money on part of just one meal.

If it's special and your husband enjoys it, why not buy and just serve smaller portions? When you add all the little salads and other dishes served at yom tov meals, it isn't really necessary for anyone to eat a giant piece of fish anyhow.

No, I don't cut anything out for yom tov because of prices, but it does annoy me that many things (meats mostly) seem to get marked up for the occasion.

I totally understand where youre coming from! maybe try making "everyday" foods more special. like instead of regular gefilite fish try making it with tomato sauce or salsa.
