I'm looking for an immersion blender. I had one that blew out on me. I just need one that'll work will with soups, I don't need all the attachments some of the fancier ones have.

Right now I have a Cuisinart which works very well. Before that I had a less expensive one, I'm pretty sure it was Hamilton Beach, which worked every bit as well for what I needed - mainly making soup purees.

Oh, and the first one didn't break. It got lost. Don't ask. Rolling Eyes

The Braun has been discontinued. I see Toastmaster in the stores - half the price, but half the power.

Know what? I think the first one was a Braun. Not HB. Sorry. And I also couldn't find it again at BB&B, which is how I ended up with my Cuisinart. Quite a bit pricier, even with the 20% off coupon. But I needed it.

I hear some are more powerful than others, which is a big plus. some have removalbe parts to be washed in dishwasher or can be substitued for meat, dairy, pareve. there are many issues besides brand name.

how much power do you think I need for soups? I bought a toastmaster and it took forever to puree a pot of soup and it was getting hot as I used it so I returned it.

I bought a Kitchen aid one at BBB for about 35 dollars for Pesach and used it in pots of soup about 12 quarts. I worked well.

A good immersion blender should be able to easily blend a large pot of soup. I have a cheap immersion blender that I bought from Wal-Mart that takes forever to blend and doesn't do such a great job, and a Braun from BB&B which blends the soup super fast.

They discontinued the Braun? That really sucks! I wanted to eventually get one for dairy. I think my Braun cost around $35 three years ago.

ETA: OMG! I just found the Braun immersion blender on Amazon and it costs $159!!!! I wish that I'd received both immersion blenders from my gift registry when I got married. It's annoying because on my registry it says that both were purchased, but I only received one Sad

I have the braun and it works well with any size pot/container b/c the power is good. I have a cheaper brand for Pesach which is not as good and it takes forever to blend the apple sauce.

I would definitely go for a more expensive brand.

I would blend something bigger a different way, but okay everyone..........

just b/c the braun is discosntinued doesn't mean something else (better) won't come our way.

Isn't it way more annoying to pour the soup in batches into a food processor than just taking a minute to use the immersion blender?
