When putting a shirt on, start at the back, top of the head (the way the baby comes out). from my lamaze teacher
When putting on socks, crumple the sock that you're holding the toe part first and put the toes in first, then pull over ankle, then pull up. from my aunt
To cut their nails, use baby clippers.

ANYONE ELSE??

In order not to bend their fingers back when putting sleeves on, put your fingers through the sleeve and pull their fist through

I heard this one from someone with 14 kids (I personally cant give advice as I am a new mother.)

When cutting a baby's nails, put the scissor under the nail before actually cutting to avoid cutting the finger.

biting a babies nails to cut them is gross. Why wouldnt somebody use a nail clipper?

So they don't hurt them. What's so gross? I never did it, but know people who do.

I personally never bit my kids nails, I use a nail clipper, but I think biting is better than a scissors. I've used both and clippers are easier.

I find scissors much easier and yes putting the scissors under the nail before you cut certainly helps!

When the baby gets its first stuffy nose, holding a tissue up to him/her and cooing "blow" will not work. Also, the little nostrils are just to small to get your tissue covered finger into.

That's what that blue sucky blub thing is for...

My experience around 2am, sometime about 3 yrs ago...

When giving medicine, try giving it when they're taking a bath.

always have a waiting towel for after the bath

I personally want to buy a 'towel apron' made for this purpose- lift the baby out and the towel is attached to you, and you can wrap up the baby right away.

When you give a baby a bath, first, before you put him in, wash his back and back tushie with a washcloth or something, so you won't have to lift him from the bath all slippery and cold.

Actually my tip for bathing a newborn is the exact opposite. Before you give a newborn a bath, with the baby wrapped snugly in a towel take a washcloth and clean the babys face and wash the babys hair. Rinse off the hair soap by holding the baby over the bath and towel dry the hair before putting the baby in the bath(it's a bit awkward at first but you both get used to it pretty fast). This way the babys face doesnt get washed with the same water as its tush. But making sure the hair is dry before putting the baby in the bath will make sure the babys head doesnt get cold.
