| what sippy cup do you recommend? my daughter is 7 mths, never took a bottle or paci, purely breastfed till now. I used the playtex tall ones for my son but don't want ot use them again. any other ideas?

| My baby loves the NUK sippy cup. They are not cheap but don't leak, are easy to wash, have handles and are all round comfortable for baby.

I bought nuby cups first, b/c I heard they were good. they leaked everywhere. I also had that issue with avent- bottles & cups.

if she hasn't started on sippy cups yet, I would recommend using strawcups instead. it takes them a little longer to get the hang of it but it's much better for their mouths and teeth- so says my son's OT and Speech therapist.

I've been told the same.
An easy way to teach them how to drink from a straw:
Give them a juice box. slowly squeeze a drop to get it started.
By the end of the packet - they'll be a pro!

I can't stand vents... so I got the only cup I found without them- Made by The First Years.
They are 98% leakproof... meaning you might get some drops out if you shake it hard.
But I never put anything other than water/seltzer in there, so it doesn't matter to me if a drop or 2 comes out.
They are simple and easy to clean. That's what I like.

The trick to avent bottles:
You must put the cover onto the nipple, and THEN close the bottle. then you can remove the cover.
And the full ring & nipple must be completely dry.
It sort of works like a suction.
I don't remember what happened with straw cups, but they were the best.
As well as Playtex.
Nuby never seemed to work by me.

if you've used dr brown's bottles- they come with this little pipe cleaner thingy to clean the inserts. they would probably be perfect- but they only come with the bottles.

my son had playtex. they were impossible to clean in certain corners os eventually got moldy and I would just replace them.
a straw cup can be cleaned thoroughly, in all parts and cracks?
also, we just tried a diff type of sippy (borrowed) playtex and my husband said the last drops didn't come out, she wasn't able to empty it completely.

| I was using playtex and then all that research came out about the toxic chemical BPA in certain plastic bottles and sippy cups and I went out and bought the sippy cups from Born Free. $16.99 a sippy cup!!!!!

Avent also has no BPA, and they are so far the best Ive tried of that type. They have interchangable spouts, handles, and sizes for different ages.
I take the valves out of every cup -- it seems unnecessary, and confusing for the kids.

Not the straw ones if put in properly. My son even takes them to bed!
(I only use straw cups b'shitta -- until my older son was older and started using a tumbler for bed. Never a sippy cup.)

To clean straw cups: try not to let them sit around. I also have a pipe cleaner type of brush (came with my Lansinoh manual hand pump), but I've also used q-tips and regular pipe cleaners and they fit through to scrape out the gunk.
I at first tried only putting in water, but eventually started to put in milk as well for my younger son. His cup is still doing fine without mold.
To teach them to drink using a straw (started around 9 months), I dipped the bottom of the straw in the liquid, and let them suck, quickly put it back in, and let them suck on the top. Worked perfectly both times so far!

| I've used Klean Kanteen sippy (they have Avent sippy spout), and one by Thermos (it is sold in Baby'sRUs, its also metal. I use it for milk, keeps it cold)

why do you let your kid take cups to bed? that defeats the whole purpose of not using sippy cups.

I tried both of those. My 18 mo cant pick up the klean kanteen w/o dropping it lots b/c its heavy and has no handles. The thermos one leaked terribly out the sides.
