This, too, shall pass. My son didn't make excuses to come home, but he'd scream bloody murder when he was being taken to school. (It was very embarrassing to walk down the street with a child yelling as if he was being tortured with red-hot pincers.) He would not tell us why. (Of course we asked him if anyone was hurting him or mistreating him. He said no.) This went on for a long time, but eventually he got over it.

Sure I appreciate the interest, but when it comes down to things, when someone's observing, I'm much more inhibited. I have more fun with the kids when I don't feel like I have to prove anything or be embarrassed that I'm making funny faces. So whenever people watch, they're actually seeing me at my worst .
